Liverpool are flying high at the moment. They were successful in the Champions League and secured knock-out stage by winning 2:0 at Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday. It was a hard-fought victory after Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah scored in the second half. The Egyptian winger has been involved in 27 Champions League goals for Liverpool since he joined the Reds in 2017, scoring 19 goals and assisting 8. Only Leo Messi (28) has better score in that period. Domestically, Liverpool are leaders in the Premier League, collecting 46 from the possible 48 points. They have won all but one league match in the past four months, scoring two or more goals in 14 matches. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent, while the players confidence is at highest level. Liverpool are unbeaten in their past 33 Premier League games, their longest ever run without defeat in top-flight history. last weekend the Merseysiders outplayed Bournemouth at Vitality, winning 3:0. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, one of seven changes for the Reds, opened the scoring after a brilliant long-range pass from Jordan Henderson. Naby Keita scored the second goal just before the break, while Salah set the final result. For this match Klopp has three injury worries. Joel Matip is still rehabilitating from injury, while Dejan Lovren, who limped off against Salzburg, is rated as doubtful. Fabinho has suffered ankle ligament damage and he is out for at least two weeks. Finally, Nathaniel Clyne is a long-term absentee. Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are pushing for a starting place.
Watford are at the bottom of the table with just nine point after 16 matches and another defeat would make the things even worse. The Hornets have a record of one win, five draws and 10 defeats. The lone victory was earned against newcomers Norwich City in November. One win from the opening 16 matches is Watford's poorest record at this stage of a season. According to the expectations, manager Javi Gracia paid the prize for the bad results and he was sacked. The Spaniard, who was in charge since January 2018, was replaced by Quique Sanchez Flores. But there wasn't any improvement, so the club officials decided to make another change - U23 coach Hayden Mullins was put in temporary charge following the sacking of Sanchez Flores. Mullins led the club in two matches - a 2:0 defeat from Leicester City and in the goalless draw with Crystal Palace last weekend. The draw could be evaluated as a step forward, though the fact they haven't scored under Mullins was the key reason for another change. The club officials brought Nigel Pearson as third permanent manager. His main job is to improve the efficiency. In general, Watford have lot of scoring problems. The Hornets have failed to score in nine Premier League games this season, more than any other side. Captain Troy Deeney was out for several weeks after undergoing knee surgery and maybe his absence is the reason for that. Deeney, who scored 11 goals last season, will lead the line on this match. Pearson has four of unavailable players for his debut - Jose Holebas, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Sebastian Prodl. That's not all as Craig Dawson and Daryl Janmaat are rated as doubtful with head and knee injury respectively.
Liverpool vs Watford Predictions:
Liverpool are eight points clear of the second-placed Leicester City. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent following the Champions League success, while the players confidence is "High as Everest". The Reds will go for another victory. But being overconfident sometimes could produce problems. I expect Watford to score at Anfield. I am well aware they have scored just 9 goals so far, but don't forget Liverpool have some defensive issues. They kept clean sheet just on 3 of the 16 played matches in the Premier League. In addition, Klopp's men never kept clean sheet this season at Anfield. They conceded on eight home games in the Premier League, plus three times in the Champions League. I expect the series to continue.
