Leicester City will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host league-leaders Liverpool on Boxing Day. The Foxes sit on the second place with 39 points, 10 less their actual opponents. Brendon Rodgers' men remain the most pleasant surprise of the season. The former Liverpool and Celtic manager is doing a great job and the fans are fully satisfied. Most of them start hoping for 'Top-4' finish, while some of them are dreaming about new title. As You know, Leicester City were surprise champions under Claudio Ranieri three years ago. Nothing is impossible, however, the actual form isn't at desired level. Leicester have one draw and one defeat on the last two Premier League matches. They played just an 1:1 draw with bottom-placed Norwich at King Power, which was a disappointing result. On Saturday they lost 3:1 to Manchester City at the Etihad. Jamie Vardy continued his scoring form, he netted a beautiful goal on the last match against the Citizens. Vardy is the leading scorer in the Premier League with 17 goals. In addition, he has three more assists, meaning he is responsible for almost half of the club goals. I believe the atmosphere in the squad is positive despite the last two failures. Rodgers has the majority of his players ready for this match, only Matty James is long-term injury victim. Harvey Barnes, who was forced off against Manchester City following a hefty clash with Ederson, is rated as doubtful.
Liverpool are leaders in the Premier League, collecting 49 from the possible 51 points. The Reds have won all but one league match in the past four months. The only side that avoided the defeat were Manchester United. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent, while the players confidence is "High as Everest". The Reds will be buoyed by their success at the Club World Cup. Jurgen Klopp's men lifted the trophy in Qatar after winning 1:0 against Flamengo in the final. Firmino was the hero on that match scoring the lone goal in the extra time. But not everything was smooth on that match. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left the pitch after turning his ankle and the club medical stuff have confirmed he suffered ankle ligament damage. As a result, he will play no further part this year, probably he will also skip the first matches in 2020. Klopp refused to suggest any kind of timescale for his return. Ox will probably miss the games against Tottenham, Manchester United, Wolves and two possible FA Cup fixtures, thus perhaps returning after the mini 'winter break' in February. There are three more injury issues. Fabinho, who suffered ankle ligament damage against Napoli in the Champions League, is still out, as well as centre-back duo Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren. Nathaniel Clyne is a long-term absentee. That means Klopp’s defensive options continue to be limited in the most busiest period of the season. On the positive note, Gini Wijnaldum should be back to full fitness after not featuring in Qatar.
Leicester City vs Liverpool Prediction:
This is the hardest test of Liverpool's credentials. The second-placed Leicester are very strong at the King Power. The Foxes have only twice dropped points at home in the league this season, to Norwich and Wolverhampton. I believe they are able to upset the leaders. Or at least to score. Liverpool are having problem to keep clean sheet this season. I expect an interesting match with goals on both sides.
