Udinese will host Roma at the Dacia Arena as both teams are looking to pick up their first Serie A victory. The Zebrette started the season with two defeats. They lost 1:0 at Verona and then lost 2:0 to Spezia. As You could see, Udinese failed to score a single goal on the mentioned two games. Even worse, Spezia played the last 25 minutes with 10 men after the captain Claudio Terzi was sent off for his second bookable offence. Udinese created some goal-opportunities, but didn't score. The atmosphere in the squad isn't at desired level, while the players confidence is low. Coach Luca Gotti is already feeling the pressure as the fans are frustrated with the poor start of the season. It became clear he need some reinforcement and that's why Roberto Pereyra was bring back after three years at Watford. The midfielder played for Udinese from 2011 to 2014, before his move to Juventus, then on to Watford in 2016. The 29-year-old midfielder made 104 appearances for Udinese and scored 8 goals. Nevertheless, he is lacking match fitness and won't play in this game. In addition, Jens Larsen, Rolando Mandragora and Mato Jajalo remain sidelined, while Tolgay Arslan is doubtful through injury. At the end I will mention that Udinese have rejected a €30m offer from Russian side Zenit St Peterburg for the midfielder Rodrigo De Paul. According to Sport director Pierpaolo Marino, the offer was "not worthy of an Argentina international".
Roma played a goalless draw with Verona in the first round. It was a poor display by the Paulo Fonseca's men. However, the Giallorossi lost that match 0:3 following a decision by the Italian sporting justice. Amadou Diawara, who played 89 minutes on that match, had been included in the beginning-of-season 25-man squad list as an under-22 player. Nevertheless, the midfielder turned 23 on July 17. Sky Italia reported that Roma have admitted the mistake, but argued that when their squad list was submitted, the system should signalized an error given Diawara’s age. If so, the league may be able to confirm whether an alert was sent or not. In the second round Roma played a 2:2 draw with Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo and Jordan Veretout scored a brace each, as Juventus twice pegged back Roma. The draw could be evaluated as Juve success considering the fact Adrien Rabiot saw red card in the 62nd minute. Even more, Edin Dzeko wasted two golden opportunities to score and Roma were punished for these errors. For this match Fonseca has some injury worries, as well as some selection dilemmas. Bruno Peres, who came off the bench after recovering from coronavirus, is challenging Davide Santon at left-back. Diego Perotti and Javier Pastore remain sidelined through injury, while Nicolo Zaniolo is a long-term absentee. Defender Federico Fazio is rated as doubtful with an ankle injury. Pau Lopez and 37-year-old Antonio Mirante are in contention for goalkeeping position. At the end I will mention that Roma signed a loan-deal with Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid for €1m with an option to buy for another €13m. The deal was signed too late for this match, so Mayoral will travel to Udine, but can't play.
Udinese vs Roma Prediction:
I expect maximum two goals at Dacia Arena. Udinese started the season with two defeats and they failed to score a single goal. Roma, meanwhile, played poor in their only away match at Verona. In addition, Dzeko looks out of form, he missed two colossal opportunities against Juventus last week. Considering these facts, I expect a low scoring match here.
