If Sports Became Completely Predictable Tomorrow (100% Accuracy), Would You Still Watch Them?

Different. Movies have artistic merit beyond outcome.

Sports without uncertainty have nothing. Just physical competition with known winner.

Correct distinction.

Film: narrative, cinematography, performance independent of plot resolution.

Sport: outcome uncertainty primary value. Remove that, nothing remains.

That's bleak but accurate.

Sports aren't art. They're uncertainty engines.

Wait though.

People watch old rugby matches they know the outcome of.

Rewatching classics and that.

Taffy that's nostalgia viewing. Different psychological mechanism.

Wouldn't work if you'd never seen it before and knew the outcome.

Correct.

Rewatching known outcome: nostalgia, specific moments, emotional connection to past experience.

Watching new event with known outcome: pointless.

Okay but what about like watching a really good player?

Like even if I knew the outcome I'd want to watch Mahomes play!

He's amazing!

Would you watch Mahomes practice session?

Same skill level, zero uncertainty about outcome.

Princess just realized sports without uncertainty is basically practice.

Welcome to the depressing realization.

lads this whole thread is just confirming that betting ruined sports for all of us... we cant enjoy them anymore without money on it... and we especially cant enjoy them if we know the outcome... completely corrupted...

Conor's right. This thread is basically us admitting betting has fundamentally corrupted our relationship with sports.

I must say Conor has articulated the central tragedy quite well, we have allowed betting to replace our original love of sport with addiction to uncertainty, the games themselves no longer matter only the unknown outcomes matter, I wonder if this transformation is reversible or if we are permanently altered, can one fall back in love with sport itself after years of viewing it purely as vehicle for wagering, I am not optimistic.

Prof that's the question innit.

Can we get back what we lost?

Or is it gone forever?

I think for most of us it's gone.

We've rewired our brains to need uncertainty for dopamine.

Can't undo that easily.

And honestly? I'm okay with that.

Uncertainty is more interesting than predetermined outcomes anyway.

Fade you're rationalizing.

You've lost something and you're pretending you didn't want it anyway.

Fade mate that's not evolution that's loss.

Tribal loyalty is what makes sports special.
