Bayern Munich will host Liverpool in the second leg of the round of 16 UEFA Champions League tie at Allianz Arena. There were no goals in the first match played at Anfield. Bayern are favorites in this game, mainly due to the home advantage. The experience should also be mentioned, Bayern have reached the quarter-finals in each of the last seven seasons. Niko Kovac's men are in excellent form in domestic Bundesliga and it is clear the players confidence is high. The Bavarians enter this match in strong form after they won the last three league matches. The series started with a narrow 1:0 win over Hertha Berlin, continued with a convincing away 5:1 win at Borussia Monchengladbach and culminated with a high 6:0 win over Wolfsburg this weekend. As You could see, Bayern have scored eleven goals on the last two matches. Robert Lewandowski scored four of these goals, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry have each scored two, while Javi Martinez, James Rodriguez and Joshua Kimmich also found the back of the net. Just to mention, Lewandowski is the top scorer in this season’s Champions League with eight goals, two more than Barcelona’s Leo Messi. Coach Kovac has some injury and suspension worries ahead of this game. He will be without two important players as Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Muller are banned, while Arjen Robben and Corentin Tolisso are struggling with injuries.
Liverpool failed to beat Bayern at home and now need at least a scoring draw to secure progress. It won't be easy, particularly knowing the poor away form of Jurgen Klopp's men. They failed to win any of the last three matches played on road. Worse, the Reds failed to score on the last two. I think the players confidence isn't high as previously. The key player Mohamed Salah is totally out of form. The Egyptian international has not scored on the last five matches across all competitions. As a result, Liverpool have lost control of top spot in the Premier League. The fans are disappointed as it looks this will be another season without trophy. A positive result in Munich will means a lot. Nevertheless, it won't be easy considering the European away form this season. Liverpool have lost three in a row on their European travels, suffering defeats from Napoli, Red Star Belgrade and Paris Saint-Germain in the group phase. The Reds have scored just one goal on the mentioned three matches on road and it came from penalty (James Milner against PSG). It is clear Liverpool have problem when play away from home. Milner, who missed the weekend's win over Burnley because of a muscle problem, is rated as doubtful. This match comes too soon for Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
Bayern Munich vs Liverpool Prediction:
Bayern Munich are in excellent form. They are in series of three victories in domestic Bundesliga and the players confidence is high. However, the key reason for my pick is connect with Liverpool's poor away form. The Reds have lost three in a row on their European travels during the group phase. The domestic away form is also bad, Liverpool failed to win any of the last three matches on road in the Premier League. I think Bayern are closer to the victory here.
