Paris Saint-Germain are favorites to win the most prestigious club competition. The French champions destroyed the cream of the English football. It started during the group phase when they host Manchester City. PSG were two-goal down in the second half, but Luis Enrique and his men didn't give up. They turned out the result, scoring four goals and winning 4:2 at the end. In the knockout phase they have eliminated three more England sides. Their first victims were the new champions Liverpool. PSG suffered a painful 1:0 home defeat, but won 1:0 at Anfield and qualified on penalties. A 3:1 home win against Aston Villa was enough for another success. PSG narrowly lost in Birmingham and secured the semifinals. The Parisians then secured two victories against Arsenal and reserved a place in the final. Last weekend they won the national cup, beating 3:0 Reims. PSG have secured the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France, but the Arab owners are no more satisfied with domestic trophies. Nasser Al-Khelaifi is desperate to win the Champions League as he spent enormous money in new players that also included Messi, Neymar and M'bappe, but without success. Nevertheless, this season is different, coach Luis Enrique composed a solid team without superstars. Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was brought in January and his impact was very big. Almost all players are available, only defender Nordi Mukiele is struggling with injury.
Just few weeks ago it look like a fantastic season for Inter. They were excellent in the Champion League, they were leaders in Serie A and they were just one step away from the Coppa Italia final. But they were unable to complete the job. Defeats from Roma and Bologna cost them a Scudetto, which was the first failure of the season. Inter were also eliminated in the semifinal of the Coppa Italia after lost 3:0 to city rivals Milan. On the positive note, Simone Inzaghi and his men secured a Champions League final. The victory against Feyenoord was somehow expected, but the next two opponents were clear favorites. But against the odds, Inter managed to eliminate two European heavyweights. First they beat Bayern Munich with a 4:3 aggregate victory in the quarterfinals, while then outscored Barcelona. The first match took place in Spain and finished with a 3:3 draw. The second match at Meazza also ended 3:3 after the regular time, but substitute Davide Frattesi netted the winning goal during the extra time to secure a second Champions League final in three seasons for Inter after two legs of incredible drama which saw 13 goals and a tie turned on its head on several occasions. Inzaghi has four injury worries ahead of the final. Valentin Carboni is definitely sidelined, while three more are rated as doubtful - defenders Benjamin Pavard and Yann Bisseck, as well as midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Prediction:
PSG have already won Ligue 1, while last weekend they defeated Reims and lifted the Coupe de France. But as I wrote above, their owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi is no more satisfied with domestic trophies. He is desperate to win the Champions League and the players are well aware about that. Many big coaching names failed to deliver, like Carlo Ancelotti, Laurent Blanc, Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino... But everything looks different under Luis Enrique. His experience could be crucial, he won the Champions League with Barcelona 10 years ago. PSG play an aggressive style of football and they will try to control the game by dominating possession. But Inter already faced such opponents when played against Barcelona in the semifinals. They showed their own attacking capabilities against Barca a couple of weeks ago, scoring three goals in each game. One thing is clear, this will be an interesting final. It is not easy to predict the outcome, though I will give some advantage to PSG. The key reason for my pick is the players confidence. The last period was very traumatic for Inter players. They failed to win the Scudetto and Coppa Italia and this situation heavily impacted the confidence. On contrary, the atmosphere in PSG is almost ideal and I expect to celebrate in Munich.
