Arsenal and Chelsea will renew the hostilities in London derby on Tuesday night. The game was supposed to take place on Saturday evening but was moved to a midweek kickoff upon a revision from the Metropolitan Police, much to the dismay of supporters. In the meantime Manchester City beat Fulham and took the top of the table with 76 points, one more than Arsenal. The Gunners heavily lost the derby of the season at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne's brace and goals from John Stones and Erling Haaland were enough for a 4:1 victory for the Citizens. If something could be rated as positive, that's the fact that Brighton & Hove Albion lost to Nottingham Forest, a result that guaranteed Arsenal's return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Of course, the fans are disappointed as they were dreaming about the title. The atmosphere in the club is far from desired, while the current form is poor. Arteta's men have no win on the last four matches. Prior to the mentioned defeat to Manchester City, they dropped six points, drawing with Liverpool, West Ham and basement side Southampton. In addition, William Saliba is unlikely to recover from his back injury in time for this match. Finally, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny remain long-term injury victims.
The last year was very turbulent for Chelsea. The war in Ukraine had a massive impact to the club. As a result, the American businessman Todd Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich, though he had no previous experience in English football. Almost all his decisions were wrong, or at least questionable. He sacked Thomas Tuchel and appointed Graham Potter from Brighton, but the results were even worse. Last month Boehly decided to appoint the club legend Frank Lampard. The fans love him, but the results are even worse. The Blues have four defeats on the last five matches. They lost to Aston Villa, Wolverhampton, Brighton and Brentford, while shared the points with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The atmosphere in the club is poor, while the players confidence is low. Lampard is under heavy pressure and it became clear he is not a solution for the next season. He has some additional issues as Mason Mount and Reece James will miss the remainder of the season with pelvic and thigh injury respectively. Marc Cucurella is also sidelined with a thigh injury, while Armando Broja and Marcus Bettinelli are long-term injury victims. Finally, Kalidou Koulibaly and Kai Havertz are both rated as doubtful. Should Havertz remain unavailable, the former Arsenal man Aubameyang will start in attack. It will be interesting to see the fans reaction.
Arsenal vs Chelsea Prediction:
Arsenal are in poor form, they have no win on the last four matches. However, the derby with Manchester City was the seventh game in a row in which Arsenal have both scored and conceded. The Gunners defense is not at desired level and they have received an alarming 11 goals in their last four matches. Chelsea, meanwhile, have a terrible season, but they are team with excellent individuals. I believe they are able to score.
