Main draw starts tomorrow. Sinner is out, Alcaraz hasn't played in four months, and 16 years of data say this is the one Slam where underdogs actually pay. Let's dig in.

The only Grand Slam where underdogs don't lose

Across 16 years of Pinnacle closing odds, the favourite-longshot bias that hurts underdog bettors at every other Slam barely exists here. At the AO, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, blindly backing underdogs loses money (-10% to -21% ROI). At the US Open, underdog yield is essentially break even, and over the last five editions (2021-2025) it was actually profitable.

Likely explanation: NY heat and late-season fatigue level the field more than the market prices in.

The men's draw

Fils just won Cincinnati, capping a stretch of form building all summer. On fast hard courts he has it all: huge serve, explosive movement, ball-striking that hurts anyone. If the body holds through two weeks of best-of-5, he's a serious contender.

The women's draw

Sabalenka is the favourite but hasn't looked like herself all season, and her recent results don't inspire confidence at this price. The Americans are in form: Gauff has been consistently deep all year, Pegula is peaking at the right time. Both have the game and the crowd at their home Slam.

Our pick: Alex Eala

We flagged this one on X during her Washington run, when she was available around @ 75 to win the whole tournament. Eala is 21, fearless on hard courts, and climbing the rankings steadily. Washington showed she can compete with and beat top players.

We sat down with him to talk about how he got here, what he thinks about betting, and what keeps him going.

From a friend's tip to a full-time job

Hello mate and thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. First of all, can you tell us a bit about yourself? And how did you get into value betting?

"My pleasure guys. So, I'm based in Poland and betting is what I do for a living, it's not a side project for me. I got into value betting back in 2020. A friend of mine told me about it first, and from there I taught myself everything else: fair odds, sharp bookmakers, how to read drops, etc."

Finding VBF

How did you discover ValueBetFactory and how do you use it?

"I found VBF on Reddit right around its launch, about a year ago, and I've been using it ever since. I'm using both the Dropping Odds and +EV Scanner. What I like about those two features is that they help me actually understand why it's value and the market dynamics behind it."

The daily grind

What does a typical day look like? And how do you handle bad runs?

"It's my job, so it takes a lot of my time trust me ahah. I try to cut off from it sometimes though, doing sport, taking vacations. That's important for my mental health, so I don't lose it.

I focus on all sports and all markets, as long as there's value. I use flat staking, though the size of my unit has changed a lot since I started. I began betting around €20 to €30 per unit, and today I'm between €400 and €500.

As for bad runs, they're part of the job. With experience, at this point it doesn't really affect me anymore. As long as the bets were good bets, that's what matters to me."

Surviving the toughest stretch

I saw on your chart that you had a terrible drawdown, can you walk us through it?

"It happened between June and August, and over about 200 bets. I went from a peak of €74k in profit down to €51k. You have to be really solid mentally to get through something like that. I just kept trusting the process, because I knew my bets were good."

Bookmakers and staying in the game

Which books do you use, and how do you deal with limitations?

"I use BetOnline, Bet105, Polymarket, and crypto books. I get limited on the crypto books for sure, that's basically guaranteed, but I always have reserve accounts ready. I've never had any issues with money being blocked."

Do you still see yourself progressing? Does the arrival of Polymarket change anything?

"I'm very positive about the future, honestly. The arrival of prediction markets is opening up new perspectives. It's accessible to pretty much anyone with a VPN. I know they are basically exchanges but it's shaking up the industry a bit. I think there's still a lot of room to keep progressing."

Advice for someone starting out

What would you tell a beginner?

"Be patient. Start with a bankroll you can actually afford and grow it over time, don't rush it. And don't panic if you miss alerts or some value, it happens, there are so many opportunities throughout the year that it's really not a big deal.

Mental health is the most important thing in value betting. That's the one thing I'd want people to take away."
