If Betting Were Taxed Like Cigarettes - A Health Levy on Every Stake - Would You Still Bet?

came into this thread thinking it was a policy question...

turned out to be a question about whether i'd stop if it cost more...

answer is no...

and that tells me exactly what i already knew but hadn't said that clearly in a while...

Same honestly.

I said yes I'd still bet before I'd even thought about it.

That's the most honest thing I've learned about myself from a hypothetical tax question.

Didn't expect that this afternoon.

Came in as a policy question.

Left as a self-knowledge question.

The tax is almost irrelevant. What you find out about yourself by answering it isn't.

The fig leaf removal is the value.

Strip away every rational justification.

What's left is just a person who bets.

For most of us in this thread: that's what's there.

Everything else is architecture around something simpler and harder to look at.

Accurate.

The sophisticated language was load-bearing.

This thread removed it briefly.

Worth seeing what was underneath.
