Watford entertain Crystal Palace in a mouth-watering Championship clash on Friday 8th February and both teams will be looking to push on towards the second automatic promotion spot.

Watford have been flying under Gianfranco Zola of late, winning four of their last five matches in the Championship, a run that has propelled them to fourth place in the table, one spot above opponents Crystal Palace.

Palace have stuttered of late and gave the bookies some help with their poor form, losing when short betting odds to pick up a win but their price of 11/4 (Bet365) to beat Watford will have its fans following their moral boosting victory over Charlton last week, ending a run of five matches without a win.

In the way of betting tips for Watford vs Crystal Palace it is difficult to put people off backing a Watford win here, but 23/20 will be too short odds for a lot of punters, so consider the William Hill wincast special of Watford to win and Troy Deeney to score in the match at an increased 7/2.

If it is a Crystal Palace win you fancy, they are a best price 11/4 to win but WillHill will give you 9/2 on Crystal Palace winning with Glen Murray scoring in the match.

Watford v Crystal Palace Best Bet

Troy Deeney to score and Watford to win – 7/2 with Will Hill (£25 bet returns £112.50)

The first Premier League game of the weekend is at White Hart Lane, where Tottenham host a resurgent Newcastle United side in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

Tottenham start as 4/6 favourites to win the match, Newcastle can be backed at 4/1, whilst the draw is available at 14/5. All odds quoted are available with Bet365.

If this match finishes 0-0, Bet365 will refund losing bets.

Tottenham will be looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to ten games as Newcastle coming calling at The Lane. The fact that on home turf Spurs have won seven of their last nine matches in all competitions, must serve only as a sobering reminder to Alan Pardew at the size of the task in hand for his Newcastle team. Having said that, Spurs are not bomb-proof having dropped points recently at QPR and Norwich where they were held to draws.

Last weekend Newcastle recorded a stunning 3-2 victory over Chelsea, showing remarkable resistance to overcome a 2-1 second-half deficit. Star of the show was undoubtedly recent signing Moussa Sissoko, who grabbed the Magpies last two goals to send the Geordie faithful wild. If he can repeat that performance on Saturday then he will be a huge threat to the Tottenham back line.

Recent meetings between the sides at White Hart Lane have favoured Tottenham, who have won their last three home matches against Newcastle 5-0, 2-0 and 1-0. However, Newcastle did manage to claim all three points in their earlier meeting at St James’ Park this season when they ran out 2-1 winners back in August. This is a difficult match to predict the outcome of, as although Spurs have been very strong at home, Newcastle will be buoyed by picking up maximum points in their last two matches. I therefore think it makes sense to avoid the home-draw-away markets and instead look for a bit of value in terms of goals betting. Over 2.5 goals looks to have a very good chance of landing although the price looks skinny at 7/10, and a better value bet looks to be over 3.5 goals at 7/4. Two further bets appeal to me and they are in the goalscorerer markets. You won’t get rich quickly backing 13/10 shots but Gareth Bale has been in sparkling form recently and it would be no surprise to see him get on the scoresheet at some point during the game. My other bet is Moussa Sissoko to score anytime at a whopping 6/1.

Tottenham vs Newcastle United Betting Tips

Over 3.5 goals – 7/4 with Bet365

Gareth Bale anytime goalscorer – 13/10 with Bet365

Moussa Sissoko anytime goalscorer – 6/1 with Bet365
