Young Boys welcome Manchester United at Stade de Suisse in Bern in one of the most interesting encounters of the Champions League opening round. This will be the third mutual game between these two sides in the competition. In the first encounter in 2018, the Red Devils won 3:0 in Bern thanks to Paul Pogba's brace. The third goal was netted by Anthony Martial. In the reverse fixture at Old Trafford was much harder for Manchester. The Black and Yellow were focused on the defense and United were unable to find the back of the net until the injury time when Marouane Fellaini popped up to score the winner.
Young Boys have started the Champions League campaign from the qualifications. They managed to eliminate Slovan Bratislava with 3:2 aggregate win, CFR Cluj with 4:2 and Ferencvaros with 6:4 to secure the group stage. It will be only the second time in their history to participate in the groups and the fact is they are incredibly inexperienced at this level. To be worse, Young Boys have won just one of their previous eight fixtures against English opposition. But the players confidence is surely high after they beat Zurich 4:0 in the Swiss Super League. Michel Aebischer was the key name on the match after netting a brace. Coach David Wagner has some unavailable players - Fabian Lustenberger, Jean-Pierre Nsame, Joel Monteiro, Esteban Petignat and Nico Maier are all injured. Some changes are expecting, with Mohamed Camara and Vincent Sierro in line to feature from the first minute. Meschack Elia and Theoson-Jordan Siebatcheu should lead the line.
Manchester United registered a high 4:1 win over Newcastle in the Premier League last weekend. The atmosphere at Old Trafford was excellent and the fans were in delirium. Cristiano Ronaldo famously made his Premier League return with a brace. He scored two crucial goals, the first and the second. Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard also found the back of the net during a strong performance at Old Trafford. The Red Devils picked up 10 points from four league fixtures and sit on the top of the table thanks to the superior goal difference. Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is enjoying the moment, he could become the first manager to win the title after Sir Alex Ferguson. But the European campaign is also important and the Norwegian tactician must find a way to rotate the players. Marcus Rashford, Alex Telles, Dean Henderson and Phil Jones have not made the trip due to injuries. Scott McTominay, who made a quick return from groin surgery, is also out of this match. Ronaldo should lead the line again as Edinson Cavani is still injured.
Young Boys vs Manchester United Prediction:
Manchester United will heavily attack from the first minute. Solskjaer has excellent players and the quality is on their side. However, Young Boys are able to upset the guests, no doubt about that. The Red Devils afforded Newcastle too much space on the counter-attack on Saturday and it was no surprise De Gea conceded. I expect a similar scenario here, there should be goals at both sides.
