If Sports Became Completely Predictable Tomorrow (100% Accuracy), Would You Still Watch Them?

Philosophical question: is rational analysis superior to emotional fandom?

Both perspectives defensible.
 
Rational superior for profit.

Emotional superior for enjoyment.

Different values, different outcomes.
 
Princess most of us thought that too.

But over time the betting side consumes the fandom side.

You might be the exception but probably not.

The analytical mindset crowds out the emotional connection.
 
i never had the fandom to begin with really... just went straight to betting... skipped the whole loving sports part...

Okay summary check: if sports became predictable, almost none of us would watch.

This proves we don't actually love sports, we love uncertainty.

Betting has fundamentally changed what we value about sports.

Sound right?

With minor exception for Princess and Taffy who have remnants of tribal fandom.

But even that's fading.
 
Yeah that's the depressing truth.

We're uncertainty addicts using sports as our drug delivery system.

Sports merely context for uncertainty consumption.

Interchangeable with any other uncertain outcome.
 
This has been rather a depressing discussion but a necessary one, we have confirmed that betting has replaced our original relationship with sport, whether this is acceptable depends on individual values but we should at minimum acknowledge what we have lost, I for one am saddened to realize that I no longer love football I merely love the intellectual challenge of predicting football, these are not the same thing and the former was more joyful than the latter.

But it's not joyful like fandom was.

We traded joy for analysis.

Or Princess, embrace the evolution and accept that analytical sports engagement is superior to emotional fandom.

Emotion or analysis. Joy or profit. Fandom or betting.

Most of us have chosen. Some unknowingly.
 
i chose analysis without profit... worst possible outcome... lost the joy gained nothing...
