Tottenham will host Austrian outfit LASK Linz at New White Hart Lane in the first round of Group J of UEFA Europe League. The group also contains Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad and Antwerpen from Belgium. The Spurs started the competition since the qualifications. First they eliminated Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv, winning 2:1. The Spurs were one goal down until the 80th minute, but Kane and Ndombele turned out the result and secured progress. In the next match Tottenham beat the Macedonian side Shkendija Tetovo with 3:1. The goals were scored by Lamela, Son and Kane. The group stage was secured with a high 7:2 victory over Maccabi Haifa. Kane scored a hat-trick and Dele Alli also found the back of the net against the Israelis. Lo Celso, who's yet to score a league goal, netted a brace, while the remaining goal was scored by Lucas Moura. The league form isn't good enough and the Spurs showed big inconsistency. First they lost 1:0 to Everton at home after a disappointing display, then won 5:2 against Southampton at St Mary, while in the third round dropped two points against Newcastle. The fourth-round match was memorable as Jose Mourinho's men outplayed Manchester United at Old Trafford and won 6:1. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane scored twice, while Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier also found the back of the net. Last match against West Ham was extremely interesting. Tottenham were fantastic in the first half and secured a three-goal lead, with Kane assisting one and scoring two. The Spurs have had 3:0 until 82nd minute, but conceded three goals in the finish of the match and dropped another two points. Mourinho, who was very disappointed after the match, will probably make lot of changes. Gareth Bale, who came as substitute on Sunday, should be handed a full start here. Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Harry Winks are also coming into contention, as well as Carlos Vinicius. However, Joe Rodon was not registered in time to be eligible for the Europa League group phase.
LASK Linz were fantastic in the qualifications for the group stage. They played two rounds and won both matches. First they managed to beat Dunajska Streda from Slovakia with 7:0. Marko Raguz scored the first two goals that determined the course of the match. It was much easier in the next period in which LASK scored five more goals through Petar Filipovic, Peter Michorl, Andreas Gruber, Husein Balic and Thomas Sabitzer. In the play-off round the Austrians beat Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisboa with 4:1. Even more, the victory was obtain away from home. Gernot Trauner gave the Black and Whites an early lead, while Sporting equalized before the break. After the equalizer, LASK had few difficult situations to deal with, so the half-time whistle was welcome. In the second half the Austrians totally destroyed the hosts. Three goals from Marko Raguz, Peter Michorl and Andreas Gruber made things clear. LASK players showed a mature performance against one of the Top-3 Portuguese clubs. LASK controlled the game and deservedly won. The sensational 4:1 success was the first away win for an Austrian club in Portugal. Of course, they will not stop there, I am sure coach Dominik Thalhammer will ask the maximum from his players again. He rested some of them during the weekend's 3:0 cup victory over Worgl, but is expected to field the strongest available eleven here. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent, while the players confidence is high. The fans are expecting another great night in Europe.
