Roma are currently sharing the fifth position with Milan. Both teams have 59 points and both teams are three points away from the Champions League spots. The season is very turbulent for the Giallorossi. Roma suffered painful eliminations from the Champions League and Coppa Italia. Eusebio Di Francesco was replaced by Claudio Ranieri, but the coaching change did not bring results. Ranieri started well, Roma won against Empoli on his debut, but then went two matches without a victory. The Giallorossi lost to SPAL and Napoli and spoiled the atmosphere in the squad. The last results are much better as Roma are unbeaten on the previous six matches in Serie A. They managed to beat Sampdoria, Udinese and Cagliari, but shared the points with Fiorentina, Inter and Genoa last weekend. Roma had one-goal advantage against Atalanta, but conceded in the 91st minute. At the end they were lucky not to lose the match after goalkeeper Antonio Mirante saved the stoppage-time penalty. According to me, Roma defense isn't at desired level. The Capital outfit are the fourth highest scoring team in the league with 62 goals, behind Juventus, Napoli and Atalanta. However, they have conceded 47 goals and dropped many points so far this season. Ranieri has most of his players available for this match, only Diego Perotti is unavailable due to injury. Daniele De Rossi returns to the midfield.
Juventus sit on the first place with 89 points. The Old Lady have 16 points advantage to the second-placed Napoli and it is clear they secured another Scudetto, the 8th in a row. Juve are class above any team in Italy. However, the atmosphere in the squad isn't at highest level, while the players confidence is questionable. There are the reasons for this strange situation. First of all, the fans are disappointed with the failure in the Champions League. Coach Massimiliano Alegri came under pressure and there are some reports claiming that Antonio Conte could return to the former club. In addition, the actual league form isn't good, Juve have just one win in the last four matches in Serie A. Last weekend the Old Lady played just an 1:1 draw in the Derby della Mole with Torino. The Bianconeri were lucky not to lose as Cristiano Ronaldo equalized in the 84th minute. That was the second consecutive draw as Juve played 1:1 previously against Inter at Meazza. The away form is also poor, the Old Lady have just one win in their last six competitive matches on road. Juventus haven’t experienced a negative streak of one victory in seven games since Alberto Zaccheroni’s era in February 2010. Alegri may decide to rest some of his key players as Juve will face Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final three days later. To be worse, the coach has some injury and suspension worries ahead of this match. Alex Sandro, Douglas Costa, Emre Can, Mattia Perin, Mario Mandzukic and Sami Khedira are all struggling with injuries, while Federico Bernardeschi is suspended.
Roma vs Juventus Prediction:
I expect the hosts to win this match. Roma are fighting for the Champions League spot, so they will strongly attack. Juventus, meanwhile, have nothing to play for. In addition, coach Alegri has lot of injury and suspension issues. The guests have just one win on the last six away matches across all competitions. They were lucky not to lose against Torino last weekend as Cristiano Ronaldo equalized in the 84th minute. Juve showed lot of weaknesses on that match. This is a do-or-die encounter for Roma and I think they will win.
