Spain face France at San Siro in Milan in the final of UEFA Nations League. The Red Fury have eliminated Euro 2020 winners Italy on Wednesday, while Les Blues advanced to the final after produced a storming comeback against Belgium the next day.
Spain won many trophies in the new millennium, including the World Cup in South Africa 2010. In addition, they were European Champions twice, in 2008 and 2012. Winning UEFA Nations League will mean they have all trophies in their collection. Nevertheless, it is true the actual Spanish team are not strong as previously. Lot of famous players have retired from the national team, like Xavi, Iniesta, Fernanado Torres, Casillas, Sergio Ramos etc. It is not a big surprise that La Roja weren't at desired level on the European Championship this summer. They recorded just one win in three matches of the group, while in the knock-out phase have eliminated Croatia and Switzerland on penalties. Their way to the title was stopped by the eventual winners Italy in the semi-finals. But the revenge came very soon. Ferran Torres first-half brace was enough for Spain to book a ticket for the final. Coach Luis Enrique has one injury worry as the semi-final hero Torres is rated as doubtful. According to the medical team, it is a 'minor annoyance' and Man City forward should lead the line here. Knowing Alvaro Morata is unavailable, his presence is very important.
France are also between the World Cup and Euro winners, so lifting the trophy in UEFA Nations League should complete their collection too. They showed some inconsistency in September's World Cup qualifiers. Les Blues have recorded just one victory on the three matches, a 2:0 win over Finland. On the other two occasions France shared the points with Ukraine in Kiev and Bosnia & Herzegovina at home. But Didier Deschamps' men showed their class on Thursday. The French players looked out of contention at the break after conceding twice in the first 45 minutes, but a thrilling second-half fightback saw them in the final. Belgium had 2:0 thanks to Yannick Carrasco and Romelu Lukaku, but France didn't give up and turned out the result in the second half. Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute, while Killian Mbappe equalized five minutes later from a penalty spot. Theo Hernandez, who was playing only his second match for the national team alongside his brother Lucas Hernandez, scored a superb winner to send the French fans into delirium. For this match Deschamps is again without N'Golo Kante who's unavailable after returning a positive coronavirus test last month. Adrien Rabiot is sidelined through injury.
Spain vs France Prediction:
The recent history is on the Spanish side. France have beat La Roja just once in the last seven mutual games across all competitions. It happened in a friendly match played 2014. To be worse, France were shut out in five of those seven games. However, I think France could win here. The players confidence is higher after the semi-final's victory against Belgium. Plus, they have players able to make a difference in the final, like Griezmann, Mbappe and Benzema.
