France vs Croatia Preview:

Possible starting lineups:

France:
Maignan; Kounde, Upamecano, Saliba, T. Hernandez; Camavinga, Tchouameni; Olise, Dembele, Barcola; Mbappe

Croatia:
Livakovic; Caleta-Car, Sutalo, Gvardiol; Stanisic, Modric, Kovacic, Sosa; Perisic, Kramaric; Budimir

France suffered a shock 2:0 defeat against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League quarter-final first leg. Ante Budimir's header gave Croatia a 26th-minute lead, while PSV Einhoven winger Ivan Persic scored the second goal in first-half added time. Croatia could have been ahead earlier, but Andrej Kramaric's 8th-minute penalty was saved by Maignan. French coach Didier Deschamps had the key player Kylian Mbappe in the starting eleven after a six-month absence, but the Real Madrid star failed to make a difference, despite having six shots in the match. Nevertheless, I believe the full Stade de France will inspire him on Sunday night.

France were favorites to win their second UEFA Nations League under Didier Deschamps after lifting the trophy in the 2020-21 season, but now the situation is very complicated. The atmosphere in the squad is far from ideal after the defeat, while the players confidence is lower. Deschamps will once again be without the Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram due to an ankle problem, while Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot is rated as doubtful with a calf injury, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate will probably lose his starting place after the disappointing first-half performance in Split. Most probably he will be replaced by Dayot Upamecano.

Croatia were excellent three days ago and deserved the victory. Lead by veterans Luka Modric and Ivan Perisic, they won 2:0 in Split and the result could easily be higher if Kramaric didn't miss a penalty. However, Croatia are very close to the semifinals, even a narrow defeat is good enough. Coach Zlatko Dalic has no fresh injury or suspension worries, though Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sucic remain out injured. Dalic has to do some big decisions about the starting eleven. Ivan Perisic is 36 years old, while Modric is three years older. Playing twice in just four days could be a big problem for both of them.

France vs Croatia Prediction:

France were poor in the first leg and Croatia have a big advantage. However, I think France are able to secure a good result in Paris. The home advantage is one of the reasons, but there are two more. Kylian Mbappe will be very motivated to see his national team progressing. And he is a player able to make a difference. On the other side Croatian best players are old and playing twice in such short period could be a big problem for Modric and Perisic. Considering the previously mentioned facts, I expect France to win with more than one goal.

France vs Croatia Pick:
France -1.5 AH @ 2.21 with Pinnacle
