Regardless of the outcome of the last two finals, one thing is clear - coach Xabi Alonso did a great job and the fans should be proud. The Spaniard attracts attention of top clubs like Bayern Munich and Liverpool, but decided to stay in Leverkusen and to continue the fairytale. Alonso is expected to have a full squad at his disposal, but few players are rated as doubtful. Florian Wirtz is recovering from a thigh problem that ruled him out of Saturday's clash in Bochum and Odilon Kossounou suffered an injury that saw him substituted in the same match. Nevertheless, both players are expect to recover in time for this match. Alonso has some selection dilemmas, to start with Bundesliga top scorer Victor Boniface, or maybe with Amine Adli as a false 9.

Atalanta come into this final on the back of a disappointing defeat to Juventus in the domestic cup. Gian Piero Gasperini´s side were favorites to lift the Coppa Italia trophy and they dominated the match with 66% possession. Atalanta also had more shots (13:9), but failed to score. They must learn the lesson. "Finals are not to be played, they are to win", Jose Mourinho once said. I think Bayer Leverkusen are closer to the victory.
