Round 32 of the Italian Serie A comes to an end on Monday night when Bologna welcome Sampdoria to the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium. Both teams are looking for points to remain out of the relegation battle. Bologna are sharing the 12th place with Empoli as both teams have 34 points, twelve more than the first team in the drop zone. So far they are out of the relegation battle, but there is no space for any relaxation.
The actual form is poor, despite the fact they remained unbeaten at San Siro last week. But it was somehow expected after the last news connected with coach Sinisa Mihajlovic. The Serbian coach announced that he will return to the hospital for another round of treatment against the same cancer that changed his life since the summer of 2019, when he firstly told the world about his terrible story. The 53-year-old has been fighting since 2019, when he underwent three cycles of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant during his first battle with thee disease. It was a challenging moment for Mihajlovic, who never left his job at Bologna and continued to work remotely and also attending matches whenever he could make it. His assistants and staff worked to cope his absence. This time he's likely to miss the last six rounds of Serie A and this might be also his last one with Bologna after some disagreements with owner Joey Saputo. At the end of the current season both parties will sit down to discuss their future. But now most importantly, Mihajlovic needs to win again his fight against leukemia. His assistant Emilio De Leo will be in charge on this match. Most of the players are available, only Lorenzo De Silvestri and Kingsley Michael remain sidelined.
Sampdoria will also try to get something from this match in order to stay out of the relegation battle. The Blucerchiati are on the 16th position, just two places away from the drop zone. They have collected 29 points, seven more than the 18th Venezia who lost from Udinese this weekend. The situation is not critical, though they must stay fully focused. Just few bad results could see them dropping on the table. I am sure the Blucerchiati will enter the game fully motivated. The actual form is poor, four defeats on the last five matches in Serie A. The opponents were not easy at all - Atalanta, Udinese, Juventus and Roma - but that shouldn't be an excuse. Coach Marco Giampaolo is under big pressure at the moment and a positive result on this match will be very welcome. Personally, Giampaolo is seeking his 100th victory in Serie A. It won't be easy to conquer Renato Dall'Ara, Sampdoria last won a Serie A fixture at Bologna back in November 2003, and since then there have been seven defeats from 12 visits. About the team news, Giampaolo remain without Danish star Mikkel Damsgaard who is still recovering from a rare form of arthritis in his knee. Manolo Gabbiadini and Sebastian Giovinco are both out injured too.
Bologna vs Sampdoria Prediction:
I expect the points to be shared in this match. The key reason for my pick is simple - both sides should be satisfy with one point. Bologna will remain distanced from the drop zone and this is what they want. Sampdoria, meanwhile, have four defeats on the last five matches in Serie A and the players confidence is low. Collecting a point from this away match is definitely a good result.
