Newcastle United welcome Liverpool to St James' Park on Saturday evening. The Magpies became "draw specialists" as they shared the points on five of the last six Premier League matches, including the last three in a row. Nevertheless, they are still at Top-4, mainly because their opponents are inconsistent. But Eddie Howe is well aware his side need victories to secure a Champions League spot. Dropping six points on the last three matches could be a big problem, particularly because the opponents were not too strong - Crystal Palace, West Ham and Bournemouth. Newcastle now have only a two-point lead over Tottenham, who also have a match in hand. The new Saudi owners have invested big money and they expect to see their club in the Champions League next season. But Howe has some additional issues due to injuries and suspension. Key midfielder Bruno Guimaraes remain suspended as he will serve the last of his three-game suspension following a red card in the Carabao Cup. Many more are struggling with injury. Javier Manquillo, Emil Krafth and Matt Targett are definitely sidelined, while Joe Willock, Allan Saint-Maximin, Almiron, Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles are rated as doubtful.
Liverpool were excellent in the last seasons and won all possible trophies - UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FIFA World Club Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Community Shield etc. Jurgen Klopp became one of the best managers in Liverpool's history and has an iconic status at Anfield. But this season is different, the Reds are in huge crisis and they are far away from the top of the table. Many experts are debating about the reasons - Mane's departure, injury situation, poor transfer decisions and so on. However, the Reds are far from the Top-4. They sit on the 9th place with 32 points, nine adrift of fourth-placed Newcastle. Klopp's men have a match in hand, so the difference could be reduced. That is why the result of this match is extremely important The injury situation is still complicated, but there are some positive news. Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have recovered and played few minutes against Everton, on Monday, while Virgil van Dijk was an unused reserve on the same match. Summer arrival Arthur has returned to full training after a thigh surgery, though he's not supposed to start. However, three important players remain out injured - Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara.
Newcastle vs Liverpool Prediction:
As I wrote above, Bruno Guimaraes is suspended, while Joe Willock is injured. Along with Sean Longstaff, Willock and Guimaraes have been key players in the midfield, with the trio starting the majority of games together in the Premier League so far this season. This is a big problem for Howe. But Liverpool are poor guests, they have netted just one goal on the last three league fixtures. I expect a low scoring match at St James Park.
