Just four days ago these two sides played in Florence. Fiorentina beat the Serie A title contenders Inter with 3:0. The Italian champions suffered just their second league defeat of the season at Stadio Artemio Franchi. The original match started on December 1, but was suspended when Edoardo Bove from Fiorentina collapsed on the pitch and was rushed to hospital. The match continued two months later and finished with big surprise. Luca Ranieri opened the scoring in the 59th minute, while then Moise Kean scored a brace for the final 3:0. The atmosphere in the squad is very good, while the players confidence is high.
Inter were humiliated four days ago. The defeat mean they missed a great opportunity to go top of the Serie A standings. The high loss left Inter in second place on 51 points, three behind leaders Napoli (at the time of writing). However, the overall form is solid, the Nerazzurri had five wins and two draws on the last seven matches prior to Fiorentina. Coach Simone Inzaghi now must find a way to rebuild the players confidence. He has the majority of the players available, but Denzel Dumfries will miss out through suspension. Captain Lautaro Martinez and top scorer Marcus Thuram should lead the line.
Following Thursday's victory, the fans are pleased. The Viola moved up to the fourth position with 42 points, but now are sixth after Lazio and Juventus won their matches this weekend. Goalkeeper Davide de Gea and striker Kean are the key for success. The latter needs only one more goal to break his previous best tally in Europe's top five leagues. Coach Raffaele Palladino should also be mentioned as he is doing a fantastic job. The fans are expecting to see Champions League football next season. Palladino will be without Pablo Mari due to injury, while defender Pietro Comuzzo must serve a suspension.
Inter vs Fiorentina Preview:
Due to Serie A rules, neither side was allowed to field new signings on Thursday, as the game was initially due to be completed in December. Of course, that wasn't the reason why Inter lost, but Inzaghi is surely satisfied to have defender Nicola Zalewski on his disposal. However, I think Inter will win here. The home advantage is between the reasons, but something else is important. Inter players will be extremely motivated after the high 3:0 defeat on Thursday. With the extra incentive of punishing Fiorentina for the humiliation, I think they will heavily attack from the very first whistle. Narrow victory is not enough after 0:3 on Florence.
