Watford host Liverpool at Vicarage Road in the early Saturday kick-off. The Hornets didn't start the season according to the expectations. They are close to the drop zone with seven points from the first seven rounds. Watford beat Aston Villa and Norwich City, shared the points with Newcastle, while lost the remaining four fixtures. Some of the opponents were part of a Big-6, like Tottenham, but most of the defeats came from other teams - Brighton, Wolverhampton and Leeds United. Probably that was the main reason why the club officials decided to change the manager Xisco Munoz. The fans are full of optimism following the appointment of the "Tinker Man" Claudio Ranieri. As You probably know, the Italian coach won the title with Leicester City few years ago. Even more, he has a decent home career record against Liverpool from his time at Valencia, Chelsea and Leicester - four victories , one draw and just one defeat. I must admit I was surprised by the club decision to sack Xisco Munoz. Seven points from seven rounds isn't great result, but it is far from a bad. I am not sure about the club ambitions, but it is very unrealistic anybody to expect big success because Ranieri is a new manager. But who knows, maybe I am wrong, maybe we will witness another miracle in the Premier League. For this match Ranieri has four worries. Centre-backs Christian Kabasele and Francisco Sierralta are sidelined due to injury, so Nicolas Nkoulou, who signed on a free during the international break, may start here. Peter Etebo is also sidelined, while Joshua King is rated as doubtful.
Liverpool started the new season in solid way. They have collected 15 points and sit on the second position in the Premier League, one point behind the leaders Chelsea. Klopp's men also secured a dramatic 3:2 win over AC Milan and a high 5:0 win over Porto in the Champions League. Plus, they eliminated Norwich in EFL Cup. But lets focus on the Premier League now. The Reds managed to beat Norwich City, Burnley, Leeds United and Crystal Palace, while shared the points with Chelsea, Brentford and Manchester City. These three results showed something very important - Liverpool are not strong like two years ago when they won the title. For example, Chelsea remained unbeaten despite being reduced to 10 men after Reece James was sent-off in the finish of the first half. Liverpool didn't deserve to win that match, they had possession, but failed to create goal opportunities. The last round's derby against Manchester City showed the superiority of Guardiola's men. The Reds were lucky to escape the defeat, despite the fact they lead twice. Only the individual performances of Alisson and Salah prevented them from the first loss of the season. Just to mentioned, the draws with Chelsea and Man City were obtained at Anfield. Finally, three conceded goals from newly-promoted Brentford showed the vulnerability of the defense. For this match Klopp has lot of issues. He will be without Brazilian duo Alisson Becker and Fabinho. The are on international duty with the Brazilian squad and can't return on time for this game. The Selecao will play their match against Uruguay on Friday. Striker Roberto Firmino, who wasn't called up, has recovered from injury and could start alongside Salah and Mane in the attack. Thiago Alcantara, Neco Williams, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita are all rated as doubtful.
Watford vs Liverpool Prediction:
The trip to Vicarage Road is something of a bogey fixture for Jurgen Klopp. He has suffered two defeats in his five visits, with both those defeats coming by convincing 3:0 scorelines. This time will be even more difficult for two reasons. First is connect with the fact Klopp will be missing some important players, like Alisson and Fabinho. Second, Watford have new manager and this could be a trigger for the home players. I expect the Hornets to cover the handicap.
