The Premier League is back in action with another derby match between second-placed Manchester United and third-placed Leicester City at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are in excellent form at the moment. They are unbeaten on the last 14 games in the Premier League, winning 8 of them. As I wrote, United are second, but without realistic chance to fight for the title. They have 70 points, while the leaders Manchester City have 80. It is clear the Citizens will win the title. Nevertheless, Ole Gunar Solskjaer's side are in good form. They beat Aston Vila with 3:1 on Sunday. Like many times before, they conceded first and then turned out the result. Manchester have won 10 Premier League matches after conceding first this season. Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani were the scorers. Greenwood scored his 16th Premier League goal, the most of any teenager for the club, overtaking Wayne Rooney's tally of 15 goals. Cavani, meanwhile, netted his 5th Premier League goal as a substitute this season. Solskjaer has some injury issues ahead of this game. Harry Maguire was taken off at Villa Park with an ankle problem and he is rated as doubtful. He joins Daniel James, Anthony Martial and Phil Jones in the treatment room. Considering the fact United will play three matches in just six days, the Norwegian coach is forced to rotate the players. Some "out-of-favour" players, such as Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Nemanja Matic and Donny van de Beek, could benefit from the situation.
Leicester City will try to secure the Top-Four finish and Champions League spot. The Foxes are currently on the fourth position with 63 points, but West Ham, Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton are looking for an opportunity. There is no space for any relaxation and the points from this match are very important. But the actual form isn't at desired level, they have three defeats on the last six matches in the Premier League. They lost 2:0 to Manchester City, lost 3:2 to West Ham and lost 4:2 to Newcastle in the last round. The Foxes have conceded four goals in a home league match for the first time since losing 4:0 to Liverpool in December 2019. The fans are afraid of a repeat of 2019/20 season, when their club missed out on a place in the Champions League on the final day having spent most of the season in the top four. What is more intrigue, they lost exactly from Manchester United, so there will be plenty of motives. But manager Brendan Rodgers must rebuild the players confidence. This is a very important period for his side. They will face Chelsea next weekend in the FA Cup final, their first in 52 years. But Rodgers has no luxury to rotate the players as both matches are equally important. Of course, he must be careful over James Maddison and Ricardo Pereira following their returns from injury. James Justin, Wes Morgan, Harvey Barnes and Jonny Evans remain sidelined.
Manchester United vs Leicester City Prediction:
I expect an efficient match at Old Trafford. Manchester United came back to win 3:1 at Aston Villa on Sunday, whereas Leicester City suffered a 4:2 defeat to Newcastle United. As You could see, both teams have scored and conceded. I believe in similar scenario in their direct clash.
