Sharing the routine I use for a midweek football card, mostly 1X2, BTTS and over/under. Curious how others adjust it.
1) Start from expected goals, not the table. Last 6-8 matches of non-penalty xG for and against, home and away split separately. League position lies more often than xG does over that sample.
2) Turn it into a scoreline grid. Attack/defence ratings adjusted for league average and home advantage (roughly 0.20-0.25 goals in most top-5 leagues), then a simple Poisson grid. That grid gives 1X2, BTTS and over/under 2.5 at once - important, because your BTTS and over 2.5 prices must come from the same model or you end up backing contradictory outcomes on the same game.
3) Compare to market price with the overround stripped out, and only bet when my number is 4-5% above fair. Anything smaller is noise given how rough the inputs are.
4) Team news is the biggest correction. A missing first-choice striker or a rotated back four moves goal expectation more than any form streak. No lineups, no bet (or half stake).
5) Where value tends to sit: favourites in 1X2 are usually well priced; softer spots are BTTS-no with one very passive away side, and unders in derbies where the market overrates two attacking reputations.
6) Flat stakes or small fractional Kelly, and log every bet with the odds you took. Without a log you cannot separate skill from a hot month.
For the daily grunt work I use Football Predictions & Betting Tips Today | Tipsly.net - free football predictions with 1X2, BTTS and over/under calls plus the reasoning behind them, useful as a sanity check against your own grid rather than something to follow blindly. Where its number and yours disagree is usually the interesting question.
No model or site has guaranteed wins - anyone promising that is selling something. Expect variance, stake only what you can afford to lose, 18+ and play responsibly (BeGambleAware).
What home-advantage figure are you all using this season? Feels like it has drifted lower again in the Bundesliga.
