Practice, practice and more practice. Poker is an evolving game and because you played good poker like 10 years before that doesn't have to mean you play it as good today. The play style always changes during time. That's the same with chess, so you need to keep update (read guides, forums, etc) and of course you need to know poker odds.

First off, don't worry because you are not alone. I am still somewhat trying to be a better poker player by experience.
So, I will tell you some poker tips which I learned from PokerGuru's Poker School.

If you are a Beginner poker player- Try and put a specific poker hand.
If you are an Advanced poker player- Think about ranges. It will be important when calculating pot odds.

Another important thing to become a great poker player is consistently applying a winning strategy. Don't suddenly change things up just because you are bored.

Another big difference between average poker players and great poker players is the sense to fold an overpair.

Finally, just relax. Continue to play and learn on the go.
 
Regular training and improvement is best. It just won't work without you getting better and better. Personally, I now use the GTO wizard app for this, which evaluates my steps and gives me suggestions for improvement. I think such apps can help you a lot.
