Leicester City welcome the Polish champions Legia Warsaw to the King Power Stadium. For sure this is a potentially decisive encounter in Group C. The situation in the group is very interesting - Napoli are first with seven points, Legia have six, Leicester five and Spartak Moscow four. Many things depend from the other fixture in which the leaders Napoli travel to Russia. Legia would be confirmed in the top two if they win and group rivals Spartak Moscow do not. Leicester, meanwhile, must win here if they are to avoid either an early exit or finishing third - which means demotion to the UEFA Conference League. This is the Foxes' second European match against Legia Warsaw and Polish opposition in general, losing 1:0 in the reverse fixture played in September.
Leicester City will enter the match determined to stop the series of poor results in the last period. Brendon Rodgers' men have no win on the last four matches across all competitions, losing two in the process. On Saturday they suffered a painful defeat to Chelsea. Not only they lost 3:0, but they were fully outplayed by the Premier League leaders. With 15 points from 12 games, the Foxes are closer to the relegation zone than the top-four place they occupied for much of the last season. The poor form isn't the only problem for Rodgers. He will be without one of his key midfielders Youri Tielemans who suffered a calf injury just before the international break. Wesley Fofana and James Justin are also sidelined, while Ricardo Pereira, who skipped the match with Chelsea, is rated as doubtful after picked up a thigh injury in training. Meanwhile, veteran striker Jamie Vardy could start from the bench, with Kelechi Iheanacho leading the line.
Legia Warsaw are probably in the biggest crisis in their history. They are second from the bottom in the domestic Ekstraklasa with more than a third of the season gone. Legia have incredibly lost eight of their nine matches across all competitions since beating Leicester City in September. The previous coach Czeslaw Michniewicz was replaced by his assistant Marek Golebiewski, but without success. Legia have now lost four games in a row in which they scored four, but conceded 12 goals. On Sunday they suffered another humiliation, losing 3:2 at Gornik Zabrze. The atmosphere in the squad is poor, while the players confidence is lost. In addition, Golebiewski will be without the services of Josue as the midfielder must serve a suspension. Former Leicester winger Bartosz Kapustka remain sidelined with a knee injury sustained when celebrating a goal during Champions League qualifying. Goalkeeper Artur Boruc is still recovering from a back injury, so Cezary Miszta should start again.
Leicester City vs Legia Warsaw Prediction:
This is a very important match for both teams. A defeat here could mean elimination, but that's not the worst situation. More important for both teams is to start with the positive results. I expect a match without calculations. At least four goals should be scored at King Power Stadium.
