Barcelona will try to get closer to the quarter-finals of the Europa League when they welcome Galatasaray to Camp Nou. The Catalans have eliminated Napoli in the previous stage, while the Turkish Giants qualified first from the group stage in Europe's second-tier competition. Of course, Barca area strong favorites in this clash as they look much better in the last period. Xavi is doing an excellent job and I am sure the fans are satisfied. In the first knock-out round they have eliminated the Italian outfit Napoli. After being held to a 1:1 draw at Camp Nou in the first leg, the Blaugrana showed their class by winning 4:2 in Naples. Barcelona were also good in domestic La Liga, winning 2:1 against Elche on Sunday. Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay both came off the bench to turn out the result which represented their fourth win across all competitions. The atmosphere in the squad is positive, while the players confidence is high. But Xavi has some injury and suspension worries ahead of the match. Ansu Fati, Sergi Roberto, Samuel Umtiti and Alejandro Balde remain out injured, while teenage midfielder Gavi is out suspended after picked up three yellow cards in European competition. Torres can expect a replace Gavi, while Sergino Dest will return to the defense in place of the ineligible Dani Alves.
Galatasaray are the most famous and most successful Turkish club. However, right now they are in some sort of crisis, out of the title fight in domestic SuperLig. In fact, they dropped into the bottom half of the table. The club officials were forced to react and the coaching legend Fatih Terim was replaced by Domenec Torrent. Nevertheless, the European campaign was much better and they are unbeaten in the 2021-22 Europa League season. The group was not easy, the opponents were Marseille, Lazio and Lokomotiv Moscow, but the Turkish outfit managed to register a home win and away draw against each of them. At the end they have collected 12 points from a possible 18 to qualify for the knock-out phase as group winners. But the warm up for Barcelona wasn't successful as they suffered a 2:0 defeat away to Konyaspor. What is worse, Galatasaray are in series of 10 matches in all competitions without a clean sheet. The former first-choice goalkeeper Fernando Muslera will probably start on the bench as Barcelona loanee Inaki Pena has established himself as new Number One. The former Blaugrana striker Arda Turan will probably miss the match due to a groin injury, while Sofiane Feghouli and Kaan Arslan were also absent from the squad to face Konyaspor for the weekend.
Barcelona vs Galatasaray Prediction:
Barcelona are in excellent form, they play much better since Xavi took the team. The home advantage should also be mentioned, Barca have suffered just two defeats in their last 35 European knock-out matches at Camp Nou, Galatasaray are the most successful Turkish club and they should not be underestimated, regardless of the fact their current form isn't at desired level. They will put the focus on defense, so I think they won't lose too high.
