Brentford will host a resurgent Manchester United in West London on Tuesday night. The home advantage is usually very important. Indeed, three of the five Brentford's wins this season have come at home. But Manchester United are between the rare teams that like to play away from home. The Red Devils have lost just two of their last 34 away league matches and it wouldn't be a big surprise to upset the hosts here. However, Brentford are in good form when play in front of their own fans. They managed to obtain two consecutive victories, beating Everton and Watford at the Community Stadium. Ivan Toney was the hero against the Toffees as he scored the lone goal. He coolly slotted in a 24th-minute penalty, awarded after Andros Townsend's high challenge on Frank Onyeka was reviewed by the referee on the pitch-side monitor. Since the start of the last season Toney has scored all 11 of his penalties in league fixtures, more than any other player in the top four English divisions. The victory against Watford was more dramatic. The Bees were losing 1:0 until the 84th minute when Pontus Jansson leveled the result, while Bryan Mbuemo hit a 96th-minute winner from the penalty spot. Manager Thomas Frank could be satisfy with the last results, as well as the fans. However, he has lot of injury issues ahead of this match. Mathias Jorgensen, Kristoffer Ajer, David Raya, Tariqe Fosu-Henry, Josh Dasilva, Julian Jeanvier and Ivan Toney are all unavailable for selection. Ethan Pinnock has tested positive for COVID-19 and can't play too. On the positive note, Sergi Canos is back from suspension and should lead the line.
Manchester United started the life without Ole Gunar Solskjaer. As You probably know, he was replaced by Ralf Rangnick. The German tactician instantly brought better results. Due to work permit reasons, he took full control only in the last two matches against Crystal Palace and Norwich City. And his start was excellent, United secured back-to-back wins, registering two clean sheets. Manchester are on the fifth place with 27 points from 16 matches, above Arsenal and Tottenham, and just one point adrift of fourth-placed West Ham. The Red Devils were far from their best against Norwich City on Saturday, but Cristiano Ronaldo's 75th-minute penalty secured a huge three points. Interesting to be mentioned, CR7 became the third player to score under three different Manchester United managers in a single season, after James Hanson and Joe Spence both did so in 1926/27. However, goalkeeper David de Gea should be mentioned too. The Spaniard maintained his excellent form this season, diving full stretch to tip a fizzing Teemu Pukki drive over the bar before clawing away Ozan Kabak's goalbound header late on. Even Rangnick admitted his saves were crucial. His performance could help the team once again, but there is another good news. Raphael Varane is due to return to full first-team training on Monday and could be in contention for this match. However, lot of players are still struggling with injuries. Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial will again be unavailable, while Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are rated as doubtful. The situation with Victor Lindelof isn't clear. He was forced off with chest pains against Norwich and now the medical team have the final word. Most probably he won't be risked, with Eric Bailly ready to deputize. As I wrote above, Varane is also an option.
Brentford vs Manchester United Prediction:
Rangnick had a dream start at United, winning the first two matches in the Premier League. The German coach became the second Manchester United's manager to register a clean sheet in his first two league games in charge after Ernest Mangnall in 1903. The atmosphere in the squad is much better now, while the players confidence is higher. I believe the winning series will continue.
