Manchester United will try to secure some advantage when they welcome Sevilla to Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of UEFA Europa League on Thursday night. The Red Devils had already eliminated two La Liga sides in this season's tournament, Barcelona and Betis. They are solid in domestic competitions, already winning the League Cup and in good position for Top Four finish in the Premier League. That's not all, they are also still active in the FA Cup. Erik ten Hag is doing an excellent job and the fans are satisfied. But he has some injury issues ahead of this match. The biggest handicap is the absence of Marcus Rashford, who picked up a groin injury against Everton on Saturday. Luke Shaw is also out with a recent hamstring injury, while Donny van de Beek, Tom Heaton and Alejandro Garnacho remain on the treatment table. On the positive note, Casemiro is available to play in Europe despite the domestic suspension, while Christian Eriksen has recovered from an ankle injury.
Sevilla play a poor domestic season and they are in the middle of the table. However, the European form could be evaluated as good, having eliminated PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce in the knock-out rounds. They love this competition and were successful in the recent years. Sevilla have won the Europa League on six occasions, which is a competition record. The last success came in 2020, so they must be taken seriously. Sevilla, who played a 2:2 draw with Celta Vigo in La Liga last Friday, will be very handicapped on this match as three first-team players are unavailable. Coach Jose Luis Mendilibar will be without Joan Jordan and Jesus Manuel Corona due to Achilles and muscle injuries respectively. Pape Cheikh, who is on loan at the Spanish club from Marseille, is ineligible to play. On the positive note, Lucas Ocampos is available after missing the 2:2 draw with Celta Vigo in La Liga due to a suspension. Marcos Acuna received a late red card against Celta, but the Argentine is available to play in Europa. There was a confusion about on-loan Man United defender Alex Telles, but UEFA officials have confirmed that he is able to play against his parent club.
Manchester United vs Sevilla Prediction:
I think Manchester United will win here. Even more, it should be in handicap. The home advantage is the first reason, but there is more. Sevilla will be very handicapped on this match as three regulars are unavailable - Joan Jordan and Jesus Manuel Corona are out injured, while Pape Cheikh, who is on loan at the Spanish club from Marseille, is ineligible to play. Ten Hag is also missing one important player (Rashford), however I expect Manchester United to take advantage from Sevilla's issues.
