Austrian side Wolfsberger, also known as RC Pellets WAC (Full name of the club is: Riegler & Zechmeister Pellets Wolfsberger Athletik Club), welcome Tottenham in UEFA Europa League clash of the first knock-out round. The match will be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest due to coronavirus restrictions, while the venue of the second leg is not defined yet. So far there is no decision about the reverse fixture next week, with North London also as option. Wolfsberger are outsider against the Premier League Giants. The Austrian outfit finished second in group that also contained Dinamo Zagreb, Feyenoord and CSKA Moscow. They lost twice to Dinamo Zagreb, conceding four unanswered goals, but collected six points in two matches against Feyenoord and four points against the Russian side. The current form is mixed, Wolfsberger have three victories and two defeats on their last five matches in all competitions. Both of those defeats came in the league, from LASK and Rapid. A narrow 1:0 defeat away to second-placed Rapid Vienna could somehow be swallowed, but losing 3:0 to LASK on their own ground was unacceptable. Last weekend they beat Admira with 2:1. Gustav Henriksson and Dejan Joveljic were the goalscorers on that match. Coach Ferdinand Feldhofer has the majority of his players ready for this game, only Mario Leitgeb and Eliel Peretz are sidelined through injury. Feldhofer is expected to stick with the same 4-1-3-2 foration used in the group phase, with Dejan Joveljic and Dario Vizinger in attack.
Tottenham started the Europa League campaign from the qualifications. They have eliminated Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the first encounter. The Spurs were one goal down until the 80th minute, but Kane and Ndombele turned out the result and secured a 2:1 victory. The next victims were Macedonian outfit Shkendija Tetovo. Goals from Lamela, Son and Kane secured a 3:1 win. Finally, the group stage of the competition was secured with a 7:2 victory over Maccabi Haifa. Kane scored a hat-trick, while the remaining four goals were scored by Dele Alli, Lo Celso (two) and Lucas Moura. In the opening match of the group Tottenham won 3:0 against LASK Linz. Lucas scored the first and Son the third goal, while the second was Andrade's own goal. But the series was stopped in Belgium where they lost 1:0 to Royal Antwerp. The Spurs then won two matches against Ludogorets, 3:1 away and 4:0 at new White Hart Lane. Dele Alli, who isn't in perfect relations with Mourinho, was between the scorers of those seven goals, as well as Vinicius (two), Winks, Lucas (two), Lo Celso and Kane. A 3:3 draw at Linz was an acceptable result in the penultimate round. Two of these three goals were scored by penalty (Bale and Alli), plus Son. In the last round Tottenham secured the top of the group with a 2:0 win over Antwerp after Vinicius and Lo Celso found the back of the net. However, the domestic form isn't at desired level. The Spurs lost four of the last five matches in the Premier League and suffered elimination from the FA Cup losing 5:4 to Everton. Jose Mourinho is under big pressure and good result from this match is something he desperately need. He will be missing Lo Celso due to a hamstring injury, while defenders Serge Aurier and Sergio Reguilon are doubtful. Joe Rodon is ineligible to play in Europa League.
Wolfsberger vs Tottenham Prediction:
I expect at least three goals in Budapest. The key reason for my pick is connect with Mourinho. He play very careful in the Premier League, the strong defense and fast counterattacks is his trademark. But matches in other competitions are something different, they are usually efficient. The Spurs have played 9 matches in Europa League and 7 of them have finished with three or more goals. The FA Cup is not an exception, a total of 18 goals were scored on the three games this season. Considering these facts, I expect an efficient match in Budapest.
