Turkish Super Lig continue this weekend with some interesting clashes. Galatasaray host Istanbulspor in a local derby at the NEF Stadium on Sunday evening. Galata are on the second place with 27 points, two less than league leaders Fenerbahce. Galatasaray seems to be in good form, winning the last three league matches. They managed to beat Karagjumrk, Besiktas and Basaksehir. Returning back to league action following a midweek cup victory against Ankara Keciorengucu, Galata will certainly feel confident of maintaining their excellent league form. Coach Buruk is unlikely to make lot of changes to his starting eleven, although much depends on the return of several players from the World Cup. Mauro Icardi and Sergio Oliveira will probably miss the match. Left-back Emre Tasdemir went off injured against Basaksehir and he is rated as highly doubtful. Most probably Patrick van Aanholt or Kazimcan Karatas will deputize. Mathias Ross remains out injured, while Yusuf Demir is fit again.
Istanbulspor are in very complicated situation. They are second from the bottom with just eight points and they are deeply involved in the relegation battle. To be worse, they are in poor league form. Istanbulspor have lost each of their last six league matches, receiving 15 goals in the process. Away form is also bad, they have lost each of their previous three matches on road, conceding at least two goals in all three losses. Almost everything depend on Jetmir Topalli and his inspiration. He is in solid form, scoring five goals in his last seven appearances in all competitions, but the defense should be improved. Coach Fatih Tekke is already feeling a huge pressure. The 45-year-old was appointed in late October, but he is still waiting for the first victory. The club officials are supporting him, but few more defeats could trigger his change. There are no new injury or suspension concerns for Tekke. Adi Mehremic is back from suspension after being sent off against Giresunspor so should return to the defense. His Bosnian compatriot Denis Kovacevic is still waiting for his debut since arriving from Zeljeznicar Sarajevo.
Galatasaray vs Istanbulspor Prediction:
Galatasaray are in must-win situation as they are few points behind the leaders Fenerbahce. This game is a good opportunity for them to collect three points against out-of-form guests. As I wrote above, Istanbulspor have lost each of their last six league matches, receiving 15 goals in the process. For example, they lost 2:5 from Fenerbahce and 2:0 to Basaksehir. I expect Galata to win the match, but I also expect to cover the handicap.
