Empoli host Roma at Stadio Carlo Castellani in the last match of the season, knowing that only a win guaranteed their Serie A status. The Tuscan side have been denied victory deep into stoppage time last week, when played 1:1 at Udinese. M'Baye Niang secured an advantage for Empoli from a penalty after 90 minutes and it looked like they will win. However, Lazar Samardzic managed to equalize deep into stoppage time, in the 104th minute. Both Empoli and Udinese will try to avoid relegation in the last round. Sassuolo and Salernitana have already dropped through the trapdoor into Serie B, but one more team will join them on Sunday. Davide Nicola's men will definitely avoid relegation with a victory as the two teams above them - Frosinone and Udinese - play each against other at the same time on Sunday. Nicola has three unavailable players as Alberto Cerri and Tyronne Ebuehi are out injured, while Alberto Grassi is suspended.

Roma are out of form with just one win in the last six matches across all competitions. New coach Daniele de Rossi had a dream start, but the results in the finish of the season are not at desired level. Roma suffered an elimination from UEFA Europa League after losing with aggregate 4:2 to Bayer Leverkusen in the semifinal. In addition, they dropped too many points in Serie A. The Giallorossi had collected just five from the possible 12 points. Roma still have chance to secure a Champions League spot, but the situation is now out of their own hands. De Rossi has some additional issues as Leandro Paredes is unavailable. The Argentinian midfielder has received a two-match suspension after insulting the referee in the last match against Genoa. That's not all as striker Romelu Lukaku is also banned due to yellow card accumulation. Most probably Tammy Abraham will start alongside Paulo Dybala in attack.

Empoli vs Roma Prediction:

I think Empoli will win here. There are three key reasons for my pick. First is connect with the home advantage. I expect the home fans to come in large number and they will be the 12th player for Empoli. The second reason is the motivation. Roma have nothing to play for, except pride. On contrary, this is a "Do or Die" match for Empoli. And the third reason is connect with coach Nicola. He is very experienced and has previously saved clubs such as Crotone, Genoa and Salernitana from demotion.
