Arsenal will welcome Liverpool to the Emirats in a derby match of the Premier League this weekend. The Gunners were in some sort of crisis in the last period as they suffered three defeats around New Year. Arteta's men lost 2:0 to West Ham, lost 2:1 to Fulham and were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing 2:0 exactly to Liverpool. However, two victories on the last two matches marked the end of the bad period. Arsenal players entered the match with Fulham fully motivated and destroyed the Cottagers with 5:0. On Tuesday they registered another victory, this time against Nottingham Forest. It was much harder, but goals from Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka were enough for a narrow 2:1 win. I believe the players confidence is now higher. Arteta has the majority of his players available, but Takehiro Tomiyasu is on Asian Cup duty with Japan, while three players are struggling with injuries -Jurrien Timber, Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey. The latter made a return to full training after three months on the sidelines with a thigh problem, but he will only be considered for a place on the bench. Mohamed Elneny is due to return to domestic duty following Egypt's elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The last week was very emotional at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp announced his departure. The German coach is between the most successful managers in club history as he won almost all trophies - Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FIFA World Club Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Community Shield etc. Klopp became one of the best managers in Liverpool's history and the fans love him. So far Liverpool had two great managers - Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley, but now are three. The Reds are currently at the top of the table with 51 points, five more than second-placed Manchester City, who have a match in hand. Arsenal also have 46 points and that is why the result of this match is extremely important for both teams. To be more complicated, Klopp has some injury worries. Key player Mohamed Salah is sidelined due to a muscle injury that he sustained at the Africa Cup of Nations. Joel Matip, Kostas Tsimikas and Stefan Bajcetic remain sidelined due to injury, while Wataru Endo is on international duty with Japan at the Asian Cup. Thiago Alcantara is close to full fitness, but it seems this match is coming too soon for him. Darwin Nunez is the latest victim after sustaining a foot injury early in the match against Chelsea. Nevertheless, he refused to ask medical assist and played more than 80 minutes. But Klopp also has "sweet problems" ahead of this derby. The first is between fascinating Conor Bradley and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while the second dilemma is whether to promote Andrew Robertson back to the first XI or keep faith in outstanding Joe Gomez.
Arsenal vs Liverpool Prediction:
This is the third match between Arsenal and Liverpool this season. They shared the points at Anfield in December, but Arsenal were lucky to escape the defeat thanks to a referee's mistake - there was a clear penalty for the Reds after Odegaard's handball. The second match was played in January at the Emirats Stadium. Liverpool secured the progress in FA Cup thanks to a 2:0 win, but it were Arsenal who dominated the game. I must admit I was impressed with the way how Gunners played. They totally outplayed Klopp's men and missed a number of clear opportunities. Nevertheless, football is a strange game where the better side not necessary win. An own-goal by Kiwior and stoppage-time strike by Diaz were enough for away win. I think this time will be different. Arsenal are closer to the victory.
