Manchester United will welcome Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday night, knowing another defeat will be a catastrophe. They are desperate for win and the pressure is extremely high. Manchester United have 22 points and they are in very complicate situation - just 8 points from the relegation zone and big 20 points from the leaders Liverpool. The former manager Erik ten Hag was sacked during November, but little have changed under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese was brought to Old Trafford to improve the results, but he is unable to deliver. His record is awful, four defeats on the five league matches under his guidance. Three points from the possible 15 is definitely a poor result. Amorim is feeling a pressure, so he decided to react, but in wrong way. He started a war with Marcus Rashford. Some of the fans have criticized Rashford after he was seen throwing his gloves on the floor during their Europa League victory against Bodo, but I disagree. The biggest problem is not Rashford, but the fact United were outplayed on all five matches in the Premier League under Amorim. Yes, they won 2:1 against Man City, but the victory was not deserved - they were outplayed, but took advantage from two amateur mistakes made by City players. Amorim has some additional issues as captain Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are suspended, while Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw remain sidelined through injuries.
Newcastle United are on the fifth place with 29 points. They are five points behind the fourth-placed Nottingham Forest and I am sure the fans are expecting to see Champions League football at St James Park next season. The new club owners from Saudi Arabia have invested big money and they are looking for trophies, however, it is not that simple. Some big names are behind Newcastle on the table, like Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham and, of course Manchester United. What is positive for Newcastle, that's the current form. The Magpies are in series of three victories in which they scored 11 goals and kept the net untouched. First they beat 4:0 Leicester City, then Ipswich Town with the same result and then 3:0 Aston Villa on Thursday. Anthony Gordon opened the result with a fine curling strike after only 80 seconds, before Villa striker Jhon Duran to be sent-off after 32 minutes. It was much easier against 10-men guests, so Isak doubled the lead, with Jacob Murphy continuing his excellent form with the assist, before Joelinton added a third in injury-time. The atmosphere in the squad is very good and Howe will try to register the fourth Premier League victory in row. Howe will again be without Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Nick Pope and Emil Krafth. This match come too soon for Sven Botman, but the defender has made excellent progress in his recovery from a serious knee injury. Tino Livramento, who missed the win over Villa due to illness, is rated as doubtful.
Manchester United vs Newcastle United Prediction:
Newcastle have won two of their last three Premier League matches against Man United. I think they are favorites in this fixture too. The Magpies are in excellent form, they have three league victories in a row The players confidence is high, especially because they have scored 11 goals, while conceded zero. On contrary, Manchester United are in awful form, losing four of the last five matches in the Premier League. I think they will lose again. Alexander Isak, who has scored 12 goals for Newcastle this season, looks unstoppable.
