Inter took the first place after a narrow 2:1 win over Spal last weekend. Lautaro Martinez was 'Player of Match' after scoring both goals. Inter have 37 points, one more than second-placed Juventus who drew 2:2 with Sassuolo at home in the last round. The Nerazzurri are leaders in Serie A for the first time since the 2009/10 season under Jose Mourinho. The atmosphere in the squad is excellent, while the players confidence is high. The actual form is good, they are in series of five victories in Serie A. Inter managed to beat Brescia, Bologna, Verona, Torino and Spal. Coach Antonio Conte is doing a fantastic job and the fans are satisfied. But there is no space for relaxation - after the derby with Roma, Inter will close out the year with matches against Barcelona, Fiorentina and Genoa. Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku are the key players in the team. The Argentinian striker has scored 13 goals this season in all competitions, while the Belgian forward has netted 11 goals in 18 appearances. The duo have so far accounted for 60% of all of Inter goals this season. They will try to maintain the solid home record of seven victories in the last nine matches in the top-flight division. Conte has five injury worries ahead of this game. Both Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi are out for at least three weeks, while Alexis Sanchez is out with a long-term tendon injury. Kwadwo Asamoah is also sidelined, as well as Roberto Gagliardini who suffered injury against Spal last week.
Roma are on the fifth place. The have 28 points, same as fourth-placed Cagliari and two less than third-placed Lazio. The Scudetto was not their aim at the beginning of the season, but a Champions League spot definitely is the target. The Giallorossi are in good form at the moment, they have three victories across all competitions. First they beat Brescia with 3:0 thanks to goals scored by Chris Smalling, Gianluca Mancini and Edin Dzeko. Roma were also good in UEFA Europe League, they outplayed Istanbul Basaksehir and won 3:0 in Turkey. The Giallorossi scored all three goals in the first half through Jordan Veretout, Justin Kluivert and Dzeko. Roma will qualify for the last 32 with a win against Wolfsberger next Thursday. Last weekend Roma won 3:1 at Verona, even played without suspended Nicolo Zaniolo and injured Javier Pastore, Bryan Cristante and Davide Zappacosta. It was a well deserved victory against a side doing remarkably well for a newly-promoted club. Three goals were again scored by three different players - Justin Kluivert, Diego Perotti and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian, who was out of action for nearly two months, is now pushing for a starting place. Fonseca has some 'sweet problems' ahead of this match. Nicolo Zaniolo is back from suspension and will retain his regular spot in attacking midfield. Leonardo Spinazzola has fully recovered from an ankle injury and may replace Davide Santon at right-back position. The guests are still missing the long-term casualties Bryan Cristante and Davide Zappacosta as well as Javier Pastore and Justin Kluivert. Edin Dzeko is rated as doubtful due to a bout of flu. The Bosnian hasn't trained in the last couple days because of a high fever, but he won't be ruled out until the very last moment. The possible absence of the 33-year-old striker will be a big handicap as Nikola Kalinic is still rehabilitating from injury after breaking his fibula in October. Dzeko is the club leading scorer with six goals in Serie A.
Inter vs Roma Prediction:
I expect both teams to score here. Inter need points from derbies if they are to win the Scudetto this season. The Nerazzurri are in series of five victories in Serie A. But Roma will not give up easily. The players confidence is high after three victories in a row. Plus, the Giallorossi are unbeaten on the last three visits to Meazza. It should be interestina match with goals on both sides.
