Have You Ever Abandoned a Profitable System Because It Was Boring?

God.

The boring system as a grief response.

The expansion wasn't about betting at all.

The gaps were the problem. The betting filled them.

Which means the betting was never really about betting for a long time.

Prof this reframes everything you've described about your betting since Margaret died.

Every apparent methodology decision was something else.

The boring system couldn't survive the grief because the boring system required her.

I hadn't articulated it that way before.

But yes. That's accurate.

prof...

i fill gaps with betting too...

different reasons but same mechanism...

the gaps are the thing...

betting fills them...

the system that requires gaps is asking you to feel the thing you're using betting to not feel...

Conor and Prof describing the same architecture from different starting points.

Betting as gap management.

The boring system fails because it creates exactly the gaps betting was recruited to fill.

The profitable system is incompatible with the reason most people are betting in the first place.

This changes how I understand my own persistence with the boring system.

I have maintained it because I do not have the same gaps to fill.

Family present. Structure intact. The stillness between qualifying bets is occupied by other things.

My discipline is partly circumstantial.

I have been crediting myself with a resolve that is at least partly just the absence of the wound that makes the resolve necessary.

Klaus that's one of the most honest things you've posted in here.

Which makes the people who maintain discipline despite the gaps more remarkable.

Not less.

But the people who can't aren't weak.

They're filling something real with the only thing that seems to reach it.

yeah...

the boring system isn't just boring...

it asks you to sit with yourself in the gaps...

and some of us can't do that yet...

some of us are still working on it...

Going to sit with that one for a while.

Might even watch a match this weekend without betting on it.

See if I can.

The boring system works financially.

Understanding why it fails personally is more valuable than fixing the system.

You can't patch your way around what the gaps contain.

Going back to look at that 2015 totals system tonight.

Not sure I'll use it.

But I'm going to look at it honestly for once.

Including what I was actually replacing when I stopped.

That’s a great example of how edge gets diluted. Expanding criteria often feels like optimization, but it’s usually just adding noise. The original system probably worked because it was selective.
