HAITI DONATIONS 30 DAY PACKAGE

Let's all do our part, please read and forward this to everyone and anyone, thank you.

On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, followed by several powerful aftershocks, struck off the western coast of Haiti, causing buildings to collapse in Port au Prince and chaos as people fled the damage. It is estimated that 3 million people have been affected and 200,000 left homeless.

The Canadian Red Cross has sent $600,000 in financial assistance, supplies and personnel to support emergency relief efforts on the ground and will provide additional emergency assistance as needed. There are 12 Canadian aid workers arriving in Haiti over the next 72 hours. In total, over 120 international Red Cross delegates have been deployed to Haiti along with over $3 million in relief supplies. Red Cross staff and volunteers continue to work around the clock to help the many people affected by this disaster.

Double your impact! The Government of Canada will match dollar for dollar the contributions of individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross, in support of humanitarian, recovery and reconstruction efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti, up to a total of $50 million. Visit the Canadian International Development Agency website at http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/acdi-cida/AC ... 115719-MVV for more details.

If people want to donate they can do so through registered collectors.....

Information from FTC.gov: In the wake of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti, the Federal Trade Commission warns consumers to choose carefully when considering urgent appeals for aid in the news, online, and at social networking sites. The best way to provide immediate help is to donate money directly to established national relief organizations that have the experience and means to deliver aid.

1 — Donate to recognized charities that you have given to before. Watch out for those that have sprung up overnight. They may be well-meaning, but lack the infrastructure to provide assistance. And be wary of charities with names that sound like familiar or nationally known organizations. Some phony charities use names that sound or look like those of respected, legitimate organizations.

2 — You don’t have to donate to someone who contacts you out of the blue with an unsolicited e-mail, phone call, or text message. It’s better to give through a Web site or phone number that you know is legitimate.

3 — Give directly to the charity, not the solicitors for the charity. Solicitors take a portion of the proceeds to cover their costs, which leaves less for victim assistance.

4 — Do not give out personal or financial information – including your Social Security number or credit card and bank account numbers – to anyone who solicits a contribution from you. Scam artists use this information to commit fraud against you.

5 — Check out any charities before you donate. Contact the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance at http://www.give.org.

6 — Don’t give or send cash. For security and tax record purposes, contribute by check or credit card. Write the official name of the charity on your check. You can contribute safely online through national charities like http://www.redcross.org/donate.

7 — Ask for identification if you’re approached in person. Many states require paid fund-raisers to identify themselves as such and to name the charity for which they are soliciting.

For more information, go to FTC.gov.
