Georgia vs North Macedonia Preview:
Georgia welcome North Macedonia to Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi as both national teams are just one game away from qualify for the upcoming European Championship. The winners go to Group C alongside Netherlands, Ukraine and Austria. Interesting, this will be the third mutual game between these two sides in the last two months. More interesting, both previous games ended with the same result - 1:1 draw. This time there must be winners, meaning we will see extra-time and penalties in case of another draw. And most interesting, on both mutual games there were a penalty awarded for the host nations. That means the home advantage should not be underestimated, even there will be no fans at the stadium. UEFA announced an experienced Anthony Taylor from England will be the referee. Nevertheless, Georgia are strong at home. The Crusaders secured the first place in the group that also consisted Kazakhstan, Latvia and Andorra, winning all three games as hosts. They managed to beat Latvia with 1:0, Andorra with 3:0 and Kazakhstan with 2:1. In the semi-finals they were better than Belarus, winning 1:0 thanks to the penalty converted by Okriashvili. Georgia weren't too successful in their Euro 2020 qualifying group, though they did played goalless draws with Republic of Ireland and Denmark in Tbilisi a year ago. Of course, a 3:0 win over Gibraltar was somehow expected. Coach Vladimir Weiss has the majority of his players available for this match, only the midfielders Giorgi Chakvetadze from Gent and Otar Kiteishvili from Sturm Graz are sidelined through injuries.
North Macedonia finished as first in the group that consisted Armenia, Gibraltar and Liechtenstein. Six points against the last two sides came expectantly, as well as 2:0 home win against Armenia. But the reverse fixture was like a catastrophe as the Macedonian national team suffered a heavy 4:0 defeat in Yerevan. The defeat prevented North Macedonia to be hosts in this crucial fixture, but also showed their big defensive weaknesses. In the next period Macedonian national team took part in the qualification group that also consisted Poland, Austria, Israel, Slovenia and Latvia. The away results were mixed, defeats in Warsaw and Vienna, victory against Latvia in Riga and draws at Israel and Slovenia. As I've wrote above, North Macedonia visited Georgia in September and played an 1:1 draw thanks to Stefan Ristovski's equalizer. The last away fixture was one month ago in Tallinn. The defense made too many mistakes and the final result was 3:3. Everything looked good after Estonian player Kuusk scored an own-goal that gave an early advantage to the Macedonians. But then came a 'black period' in which poor Estonia were allowed to score three goals. The late efforts by Goran Pandev and Gjoko Zajkov prevented a big shame, although it became clear the defense is very vulnerable. Coach Igor Angelovski has big problems ahead of this match. One of the key players Enis Bardhi will not travel with the rest of the expedition to Tbilisi. The Levante midfielder suffered some discomfort during the working session and, after undergoing the relevant medical tests, will return to Valencia. Some players (so far Velkovski and Ristevski) were found positive on Covid-19. Finally, key midfielder Arijan Ademi is rated as doubtful through injury.
Georgia vs North Macedonia Prediction:
Georgia are closer to the upcoming European Championship. There are two reasons for my pick. First is the home advantage, while the second reason is connect with the latest problems in the Macedonian national team. As I wrote above, coach Angelovski will be missing some important players. North Macedonia are very handicapped and Georgia should take advantage.
