Roulette is a random game of chance, each spin independent from the last one, and many gamblers attempt to harness this randomness and put it to good use within the boundaries of various roulette strategies. Let's have a quick look at whether roulette strategies actually work, and where to play roulette in live dealer casinos to put these strategies to good use.

Basic concepts of roulette strategies

All roulette strategies, without fail, accept the fact that a single roulette spin is random but attempt to make sense of a sequence of spins. For example, one of the common misconceptions is that Black is due if we saw Red for several spins in a row. In reality, each spin is totally independent of any other spin, and long sequences of Black or Red shouldn't surprise anyone.

It is expected that a player will be winning some spins and losing some spins, however, and various betting strategies may help a gambler go through the rough times by losing as little as possible and winning as much as possible during positive runs.

Advanced roulette strategies

While not much can be gained by chasing the infamous Law of large numbers, as it doesn't apply in short roulette sessions, there are mathematical concepts that must be understood in order to play roulette properly, without having misconceptions about probabilities of a certain event. For example, it is expected that if we spin the roulette wheel 37 times, roughly a third of the numbers will not have appeared at all. This is called the Law of the Third and is not an actual mathematical law, but it can be observed in any sequence of random numbers.

The awareness of this fact can both prevent false expectation of each number landing exactly once in a sequence of 37 spins, and it can also be used in a betting strategy. One of the common ones is to note which numbers didn't appear during some sequence, and then bet on those numbers. Although this again means we believe some numbers are "due", and in reality none are ever due, at least we're working with an actual law and not a misconception.

Money management

While the outcome of a given spin can't possibly be predicted, proper money management during losing streaks and during winning streaks can really improve your profit on roulette. It is vital to have a plan, as otherwise, the player will be chasing losses when he loses and will feel invincible once a winning streak kicks in. At all times, roulette must be played sober and with a cool head.

Ideally, money management would help you go through the bad run by losing less than you would have lost with flat stakes, and help you win more than what you'd win with flat stakes when you enter a winning streak. The perfect and foolproof strategy hasn't yet been found, but feel free to explore the existing strategies and see if any work for you.

Where to play roulette?

One crucial aspect is always to play live dealer roulette, and never play automated electronic roulette as that version is totally and utterly unpredictable as each spin is randomized using a random number generator (RNG). Live dealer roulette is also random, of course, but not nearly as random as having software pick a random number.
