UK Gambling Act Reforms - Affordability Checks Are Coming. What Do You Actually Think?

Still don't love having to prove my income to place a bet.

But Conor's answer about the friction.

And Oli's point about fifteen years of nothing.

Finding it harder to hold the position I started the thread with.

The upcoming affordability checks are one of the biggest changes to UK gambling regulations. While the goal of promoting safer gambling is important, many players are concerned about privacy, financial checks, and how these rules will affect their experience. It will be interesting to see whether the reforms strike the right balance between player protection and personal freedom. Looking forward to hearing different opinions from the community.

The UK is running an experiment the rest of the world will watch.

Whether the checks reduce harm without collapsing the regulated market or driving significant offshore migration.

Two years of data will be more useful than any of this discussion.

would have hated the checks if they'd been in place when i was at my worst...

would have found a way around them...

but the finding a way around them would have taken time and effort...

time and effort is friction...

friction is moments...

moments are chances...

i didn't take mine when they came...

but i had fewer moments than i should have had...

the industry made sure of that...
