Spain will welcome Switzerland at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in Madrid in UEFA Nations League fixture. The Red Fury started the campaign with an away draw at Germany. Timo Werner scored for Germany, while Jose Gaya rescued a point with a 95th-minute equalizer. Spain deserved a point as Leeds United's striker Rodrigo missed two excellent opportunities previously. Gaya scored with almost the last kick of the game. In the next match Spain destroyed Ukraine with 4:0. Ansu Fati and Sergio Ramos were the key names on that match. The 17-year-old Fati, who enjoyed the first start for the national team, became the Spain's youngest ever goalscorer. Ferran Torres added his own first Spain goal late on. Luis Enrique's men climbed on the top of Group A4, one point ahead of second-placed Ukraine. On Wednesday Spain played a goalless draw with Portugal as a preparation for this match. Enrique rest some of the key players, meaning David de Gea, Pau Torres, Jesus Navas and Ansu Fati should start here. Sergio Canales and Dani Ceballos both started against Portugal but could now drop out. Fabian Ruiz will miss the match as the Napoli midfielder was unable to travel to Spain due to quarantine rules. As You probably know, several Napoli players were tested positive on Covid-19.
Switzerland have collected just one point from the opening two matches of UEFA Nations League. First they lost 2:1 to Ukraine at Arena Lviv stadium. Yarmolenko gave the hosts an early advantage, but the Swiss striker Haris Seferovic scored an equalizer into the corner of the Ukrainian goal from outside of the penalty area in the 41st minute. Nevertheless, the guests left the stadium empty-handed after Oleksandr Zinchenko’s spin kick went directly into the top corner of the goal from 22 meters away. In the next round Switzerland played an 1:1 home draw with Germany. Ilkay Gundogan gave the visitors an 1:0 lead at St Jakob-Park, finishing clinically in 14th minute. However, the Swiss national team leveled just before the hour, with Silvan Widmer converting from inside the penalty area. A point against the World champions usualy looks a solid result, but it's worth mentioning that German coach Loew was missing Bayern Munich players. However, Switzerland will try to remain unbeaten in this match too. Coach Vladimir Petkovic has some issues as Renato Steffen and Breel Embolo are both unavailable. That means there will be changes from the side that started against Germany. Manuel Akanji is currently in isolation and won't play too. On the positive note, Liverpool's winger Xherdan Shaqiri will fly to Madrid after testing negative for Covid-19 and could start here. At the end I will mention that Switzerland lost 2:1 to Croatia in a friendly game during the midweek.
Spain vs Switzerland Prediction:
The two national teams have made contrasting starts to their Nation League campaigns. Spain have collected four points from the first two matches, while Switzerland just one. The Red Fury looked fantastic against Ukraine when they won 4:0. I think they will continue with the positive results. The quality is on their side and I expect a comfortable victory for Luis Enriqe's men.
