Strange question but I'm genuinely curious: what happens in your head in the 30 seconds BEFORE you hit submit on a bet?

Not the analysis that led you to the bet. I mean that specific moment when the bet slip is filled out, finger hovering over the button, and you're about to commit.

For me there's this whole internal dialogue:
"Is this really a situational edge or am I seeing patterns that aren't there?"
"Did I already bet this game on another book?"
"Am I betting this because I analyzed it or because I want action on this time slot?"

Sometimes I place bets in 5 seconds. Sometimes I stare at the screen for 3 minutes before clicking.

What's going through YOUR head in that moment?

My pre-bet checklist runs automatically:
✓ "Is this the best available line?" (compare 3+ books)
✓ "Is this within my unit size parameters?" (1% of current bankroll)
✓ "Does this meet my minimum edge criteria?" (53%+ expected win rate)
✓ "Have I logged this in my tracking sheet?" (hit submit only after logged)

Takes about 15-20 seconds. Methodical every time.

If ANY item fails, I don't place the bet.

The checklist removes emotion from the moment.

My internal dialogue is like:

"OMG this is gonna hit!"
"All these legs look so good!"
"What if I add one more leg for a bigger payout??"
"No wait that's too risky!"
"Okay just do it!"
*clicks submit*
"YESSS let's gooo!!"

The whole thing takes like 10 seconds lol

It's pure excitement! No doubt really!

Mine's different every time.

Contrarian bet where I'm fading public: "The public is definitely wrong here. This is the play. Submit."

Takes 3 seconds. High confidence.

Bet where I'm slightly uncertain: "Is this ACTUALLY contrarian or am I just being different for the sake of it? Is the public maybe right this time? No, trust the process. Vegas knows. Submit."

Takes 2-3 minutes of internal argument.

Systematic verification process:

"Model output: 2.3% edge"
"Current bankroll: €32,140"
"Kelly percentage: 1.8%"
"Bet size: €580"
"Line value confirmed: 2.15 vs fair value 2.10"
*Submit*

7-10 seconds. Emotion irrelevant. If mathematics satisfied, bet placed.

Completely depends on context mate.

Sober, at home, laptop: "Is this a good bet? Did I check the form? What's the weather? Okay let's do it." 30 seconds maybe.

Three pints in, at the pub, Wales playing: "WALES! £50! SUBMIT!" 2 seconds.

Drunk betting has no internal dialogue.

Just impulse.

If criteria met: submit. 2-3 seconds.

If criteria not met: close app. 1 second.

No internal debate. Decision made before bet slip filled.

Hesitation indicates poor conviction. Don't bet.

theres no 30 seconds... theres no internal dialogue... i see bet i want it i click submit... whole thing maybe 3 seconds... urge to action happens instantly... no pause no thinking no checklist just need to place the bet right now... sometimes click submit before i even fully read what im betting on...

none... the thought "i should bet this" and clicking submit happen basically simultaneously... no filter no hesitation... thats the addiction part... normal people have the pause... i dont...

Conor that's actually a clinical symptom of impulse control disorder.

The absence of gap between impulse and action.

Most people have at least a few seconds of evaluation.

Conor's description confirms addiction diagnosis.

Normal betting: impulse → evaluation → decision → action
Addiction: impulse → action (evaluation bypassed)

Neurological pathway difference.

Conor mate that's rough.

Even when I'm drunk there's like a second or two.

You don't have any pause at all?

not really no... like i can FEEL that i should pause but i dont... finger hits button before brain catches up... then immediately regret but too late...

Conor that sounds really hard 💙

Mine's not like that - I'm excited but I still have the moment before clicking!

Like I think about it at least a little!

Let's get specific: what are the actual THOUGHTS in that moment?

For me it's:
- "This coaching matchup is real, right?"
- "Am I overthinking this?"
- "Fuck it, I trust my analysis"
*submit*

Mine:
- "Public is 78% on the favorite"
- "Line hasn't moved despite the percentage"
- "This is exactly the spot I look for"
- "Wait, what if the public is actually right this time?"
- "No, trust the system. RIP public money."
*submit*

Mine:
- "Line shopping complete"
- "Bankroll updated"
- "Unit size correct"
- "Logged in spreadsheet"
- "Edge confirmed"
*submit*

It's a checklist, not thoughts.

My internal process before placing a bet is quite methodical, I look at my spreadsheet one final time and confirm the expected value calculation is correct, then I ask myself whether this bet meets my minimum threshold of edge which is two percent, then I verify the stake amount corresponds to the proper Kelly percentage for the identified edge, then I have a brief moment where I think about Margaret and wonder if she would agree with this selection, this final step is not mathematical but rather emotional and it serves as a final check on my reasoning, if I can imagine her nodding in agreement I place the bet, if I can imagine her raising an eyebrow skeptically I reconsider, the entire process takes approximately twenty to thirty seconds.

Prof asks himself what his dead wife would think before betting.

That's actually beautiful mate.
