AC Milan travel to the capital to face Lazio at Stadio Olimpico on Friday night. The points from this match are very important for both sides as they are fighting for a Champions League spot. Lazio currently have 40 points and they are eight points away from the fourth-placed Bologna. It is clear they need a series of good results in the finish of the championship. But coach Maurizio Sarri must decide about the importance of the next match, against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Lazio won 1:0 at home and have a good opportunity to progress to the quarterfinals. It is possible Sarri to rest some of his key players on Friday. In addition, Patric has a sprained ankle, while Nicolo Rovella is struggling with a groin injury. Most probably they will miss out the derby with Milan. The return of Mattia Zaccagni from injury has been careful and without risk. He played 45 minutes last week, but the Italy international may only be on the bench again.

AC Milan are third on the table with 53 points, but must stay focused in the remaining 12 rounds. The first place looks reserved for Inter who have 69 points. The Rossoneri are out of form at the moment, they have two defeats and just one draw on the last three matches across all competitions. Milan lost 4:2 to Monza and lost 3:2 to Rennes in Europa League, but still progressed. Milan also drew 1:1 with Atalanta at San Siro as Rafael Leao's wonder goal was cancelled out by a Teun Koopmeiners penalty. Milan boss Stefano Pioli has the majority of his players available, but Tommaso Pobega is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, while Mattia Caldara is a long-term absentee. Striker Luka Jovic remains suspended after his straight red card against Monza two weeks ago. Most probably the Serbian will start in their Europa League clash with Slavia Prague next Thursday. Pierre Kalulu and Davide Calabria have both returned to the squad for the match with Atalanta.

Both teams are in poor form, they suffered I think Milan will win here. The key reason for my pick is the upcoming game of Lazio. They will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League next week. Lazio won 1:0 at home and have a good opportunity to progress to the quarterfinals. That is why I am expecting coach Sarri to rest some of his key players. This match isn't too important for Lazio. Milan also play in Europa, but on Thursday. That means their players have more time for rest. And this could make a difference.
