Brentford will welcome the leaders Liverpool to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday lunchtime. Both sides had registered important victories in the last round. The Reds kept the top of the table thanks to a 3:1 home win against Burnley, while the Bees eased the growing relegation fears with a 2:0 success at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Brentford now sit on the 14th place with 25 points, six away from the drop zone. The current form could be evaluated as good - two victories on the last four matches in the Premier League. Just to mention, Brentford have suffered five defeats during December and the situation looked very hard. There are reasons why the Bees played poor - the suspension of Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo's ankle injury. The later is still out of contention, but Toney is available and his goals made the difference against Nottingham and Wolves. Manager Thomas Frank will again be without Mbeumo, but Yoane Wissa and Frank Onyeka returned from the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Rico Henry, Kevin Schade and Aaron Hickey remain out injured, while Josh Dasilva is expected to miss the rest of the season following a knee surgery.
Liverpool are leaders on the table with 54 points, but it's a matter of days when Manchester City will take the top of the table. The Citizens have 52 points, but also have a match in hand. However, Liverpool will try to collect as much as possible points in the remaining 14 rounds. But the match with Arsenal showed it's not that simple. The Reds lost 3:1 at the Emirats and showed lot of weaknesses. It was frustrated how Martinelli scored the second goal, after the best goalkeeper in the World - Alisson Becker - and the best defender - Virgil van Dijk - ideally served the ball in front of the empty net. So, if Shane Long has scored the fastest goal (only 7.69 seconds) in Premier League history, if Alejandro Garnacho scored the the best goal, then Gabriel Martinelli definitely scored the easiest goal. Klopp must improve the defense, they were far from good against Burnley too. Alisson missed the last round's game due to illness, but should be back for this one. But Klopp has big injury issues for this tie. Trent Alexander-Arnold damaged his knee in the match with Burnley, and he will be out for minimum two weeks, meaning Trent will miss the Carabao Cup final with Chelsea on February 25. Joel Matip, Ben Doak and Stefan Bajcetic remain long-term absentees, maybe Thiago Alcantara, too. Finally, Dominik Szoboszlai is rated as doubtful due to a thigh injury.
Brentford vs Liverpool Prediction:
I expect both teams to score at the Gtech Community Stadium. Liverpool are leaders on the table and so far the Reds have scored on all but one league game. Manchester United are the only team that prevented Liverpool from scoring. I don't think Brentford could repeat their success. Frank is not a coach that will "park the bus" in front of his own goal. In addition, the club leading goalscorer Mohamed Salah has recovered and the Egypt international will start on the left flank. Brentford, meanwhile, had poor results in December and January, but they found the back of the net on all but one match. In other words, the Bees have scored on 9 of the last 10 matches in the Premier League.
