Everton will welcome Newcastle United to Goodison Park on Thursday night. Both teams are going into the match on the back of last rounds narrow victories. The Toffees secured a 1:0 away win over Nottingham Forest last Saturday, while the Magpies beat Manchester United by the same scoreline. Everton now sit third from the bottom with seven points. In fact, they have collect 17 points, but the club were deducted 10 points for financial irregularities. However, the last victory is very important for the atmosphere in the squad. A superb second-half goal from Dwight McNeil secured their third away win in a row. Interesting to be mentioned, Everton have picked up just four points at home, while 13 on road. Only Arsenal and Tottenham have better away record than the Toffees. But playing at home is a problem and Sean Dyche looks unable to change something dramatically. He has some additional issues as key striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is doubtful with a calf problem. His potential absence means a start for summer signing Beto. But the question is how adequate replacement is, knowing Beto is yet to score in the Premier League. Three players are definitely sidelined - Amadou Onana, Andre Gomes and Dele Alli. On the positive note, Seamus Coleman is back after seven-month spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Newcastle United managed to beat Chelsea and Manchester United in the last two rounds. They are currently sixth with 26 points, but a victory here could see them climbing on the fourth position, particularly because Aston Villa play with Manchester City. Anthony Gordon, who came exactly from Everton in January, was on the scoresheet in both of those victories. Gordon has increased his goal tally to seven since joining the club. Thanks to him, the Magpies have improved their form in the last period, winning seven of their last 10 Premier League matches. But Howe still has huge injury issues. First-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope is the latest victim. He will be out at least four months after dislocating his shoulder against Manchester United. Pope will be replaced by Martin Dubravka, but that's only a temporary solution. According to some sources, the club will try to secure David de Gea or Aaron Ramsdale. Ten more players remain sidelined - Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson, Matt Targett, Elliot Anderson, Dan Burn, Harvey Barnes and Javi Manquillo. In addition, Gordon is rated as doubtful after coming off against Man United with a knock.
Everton vs Newcastle United Prediction:
Everton home form isn't at desired level. They have won just two of their last 12 home matches under Dyche. What is worse, the Toffees have lost five of their last six Premier League meetings with Newcastle, including the heavy 4:1 home defeat to the Magpies in April. Howe has huge injury issues, but it seems he learnt to deal with the situation. Newcastle managed to beat Chelsea and Manchester United in the last two rounds, while also played a controversial 1:1 draw with PSG in the Champions League. I think they are too strong for Everton.
