The German Bundesliga is back and it sees reigning champions Bayern Munich Kick off their defence at home against Borussia Monchengladbach.

These two teams met just 3 weeks ago in a pre season friendly in Gladbach. Bayern won this game 1-5. Very comfortable indeed. However, Borussia normally give Bayern a bigger challenge than this, in their last 5 meetings, Bayern have only beaten them once and that was 3-4 so a cracking game. Borussia have won twice 0-1 & 3-1 and there has been 2 draws also.

Bayern Munich are simply awesome and have had a very good pre season. They have only lost once in their last 25 games and that was too Borussia Dortmund who are not too bad themselves.

Borussia Monchengladbach have had a decent pre season too, they have won 5 of their 7 games scoring 14 goals and conceding 7 (although 5 of these were score by Bayern) , but as we all know you can't read too much into these pre season games. Borussia finished last season with 3 wins and 4 defeats from the last 7 games.

Now in recent months Bayern have only got stronger, adding players like Gotze & Thiago to their squad. I fully expect them win the league again this season and to start off by winning this game on Friday. However there is no value in backing them to win, best price is 2/13 with Coral. The draw is 8/1 (Bet Victor) and Monchengladbach are 18/1 at Bet365.

I do think Monchengladbach will score and so with both teams to score being best priced at 29/20 with Bet Victor this is a good piece of value. I also think Bayern to win both halves at 10/11 with Paddy Power is worth a bet.

Augsburg v Borussia Dortmund predictions and betting tips

Top against bottom clash in the Bundesliga! Augsburg will have to fight for survival this season while Borussia Dortmund is expected to give Bayern Munich a run for their title charging money.

Augsburg info and predictions

Augsburg has won 16 out of 68 matches in total since they entered the Bundesliga in the 2011/2012 season (eight wins in both seasons). They’ve struggled to get goals, and this season doesn’t look to be much different.

In preseason Augsburg beat Monaco 1-0 and seemed to work on their defensive organization as usual. In the Cup, they won 2-0 away to RB Leipzig.

The skillful Koreans Dong (Attacking Midfielder) and Ja (versatile midfielder) have both left. So has Oehrl (attacking midfield/striker). New players have come in, but they are unproved at this level. I think Augsburg will struggle to get more than 30 points this season. In other words; relegation will be a real threat.

Borussia Dortmund info and predictions

Borussia Dortmund had a fine season in 2012/2013, but ended up with no silver ware to show for it. This season they will have to do without Magic Mario Gotze as Bayern Munich paid the release clause in his contract. Some other class acts on the fringes of the first eleven has left too: Bittencourt, Sobiech and Santana are probably the biggest names. Leitner has been sent on loan. Attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan has been brought in as a direct replacement for Gotze. Aubameyang (Striker) and Papastathopoulos (defender) has been brought in to strengthen the core of the side too.

Dortmund has scored three or more in 7 out of 8 preseason games so far. Bayern Munich was beaten 4-2 in the Super Cup. The level of football put on display in that game was simply out of this world given it was a preseason game.

Augsburg v Borussia Dortmund betting tips

Last season Dortmund won 3-1 away. Dortmund scored early and got Augsburg out of their defensive rhythm. In the reverse fixture it ended 4-2 in a game where Augsburg was better than anticipated. At half time they were up 2-1, but of course Dortmund put on the style in the second half.

I think Augsburg is slightly weakened versus last season. Even if Gotze is sold I think this Dortmund side is even better than last year’s edition. Augsburg will defend fiercly, but Dortmund has so many players who can handle deep lying defenses that I think Augsburg will face problems time and time again during the game.
