You already know that the best betting software loves to explore the weird world of sports, and today we will close the year with another short and sweet talk about the history of skateboarding!

The history of skateboarding originated from an idea: to create a surfboard for the asphalt.

The history of skateboarding takes us to the 60's, when a group of surfers from California, United States, had the idea of creating something similar to surfboards to be used on the ground during the times of the year that it was not possible to surf (low tide).

Thus, surfers created a new way to "surf" on the asphalt: sidewalk surfing. Around 1965 the first skateboards started to be sold. However, they were quite different from what we see today. In fact, there was just one big straight board with four wheels. There was neither the front nor the back (nose and tail, respectively).

In the 1970s, the sport had important evolutions. The first of these was the adoption of urethane wheels. Developed by American Frank Naswortly, this type of wheel made skateboarding much faster. Also at this time, the United States lived with water rationing, a fact that caused many Americans to empty their swimming pools. It was in these empty pools that skateboarding gained great momentum, since they were rounded and seemed ideal for vertical skateboarding.

The 80's were very important for skateboarding, since two of the biggest names in the sport emerged at this time. Rodney Mullen was one of the great revolutionaries of the sport, since most of the maneuvers that exist today are either his creation or derived from his creativity. Another legend of the sport was Tony Hawk.

His boldness in facing increasingly difficult challenges earned him the title of the greatest skateboarder of all time.
