@tyu , I think you’re touching on the real dividing line between “a fun card game” and an actual game of skill.

Most people drift through a session on autopilot - they remember the coolers and bad beats, but they never really ask why they were in those spots in the first place. The minute you start thinking in terms of ranges, positions, and expected value instead of “strong hand vs weak hand,” the whole thing changes. It becomes a repeated decision making test rather than a series of random swings.

If you want to lean into the “game of wits” side, I would focus on two things:

• Always have a clear reason for putting money in the pot: exploit a leak, apply pressure, or extract value. If you cannot explain it in one sentence, it is probably a punt.
• Review hands away from the table and be brutally honest about whether the line you took actually made sense or just felt good in the moment.

The cards will do what they want in the short term. Over time, the player who thinks clearly and consistently about decisions wins more than the one who only remembers the hero calls.
