Has Betting Ever Made You Genuinely Happy? Not Excited. Happy.

Prof the honesty in that is extraordinary.

You've identified exactly what it is and exactly what it isn't and you continue.

Not because you're confused about it.

Because stopping would be its own kind of loss.

Understanding something clearly and continuing anyway is the most honest description of what most of us are doing.

We've been circling that sentence in different threads for months.

Prof just said it directly.

The clarity without the change.

I understand what my betting costs and I continue.

Prof understands that the happiness is no longer accessible through this activity and he continues.

Understanding is apparently insufficient.

We treat it as though understanding were the precursor to change.

Perhaps for some things it isn't.

Perhaps some things continue because continuation is what they do regardless of understanding.

The understanding-continuation gap is real and probably the most important thing this forum has identified across all these threads.

We are not confused about our betting.

We are clear about it and doing it anyway.

That is a different problem than confusion.

Confusion yields to information.

Clarity without change yields to something else entirely.

Not sure what.

working on the something else...

slowly...

clarity without change was where i was for a long time...

still am some days...

but some days the gap between understanding and behavior gets slightly smaller...

those days feel closest to happy...

not betting happy...

just... moving in the right direction happy...

different feeling...

better feeling...

Conor.

Good.

Asked a simple question.

What we found is that the happiness, where it existed, was almost never really about the betting.

It was about the building. The collaboration. The surrounding things.

The betting was the container. The people and the project were the contents.

Most of us have the container.

We've been wondering why it feels empty.
