The Sound of Winning: Why Do We Refresh Score Apps Instead of Just Watching?

I think we're all on that spectrum to some degree though.

Conor's just further along than most of us.

The score-checking thing is definitely addictive behavior.

I've caught myself refreshing when I KNOW the score hasn't changed because 20 seconds isn't enough time.

Variable ratio reinforcement schedule.

Sometimes refresh yields new information. Sometimes doesn't.

Most addictive reward pattern in behavioral psychology.

Slot machine mechanics.

Correct analysis Klaus.

Score-checking structured identically to gambling addiction patterns.

Princess it IS just checking scores. But the compulsive frequency is the concerning part.

Checking every 30 seconds when you're watching the game live is objectively irrational.

Has anyone tried watching a game with a bet on it WITHOUT checking scores on phone?

Like forced yourself?

Tried once.

Made it about 10 minutes.

Then grabbed my phone.

i literally cannot watch without checking... phone in my hand the entire time... sometimes not even looking at the telly just the apps...

Phone checking behavior severely disrupts actual game attention.

Studies show multitasking reduces comprehension by 40%.

We absorb less game information despite having more data.

That's the tragedy of it. We're so focused on scores we don't actually see what's happening in the games.

I've noticed this with coaching. I can't analyze the game properly if I'm betting on it.

Too focused on outcomes, not watching how they're achieved.

Yeah I miss tries sometimes because I'm looking at my phone.

Score happens on telly, I look up after.

Completely backward.

I'm going to try an experiment this weekend. Watch one game with a bet, phone in another room.

See if I can actually do it.

Interesting behavioral experiment Eddie.

Predict you retrieve phone within 15 minutes.

Thanks for the confidence Klaus.

But you're probably right.
