Premier league: Aston Villa- QPR
We opposed Villa for their trip to Old Trafford on Saturday which they lost 3-1, they never gave up, did create a few half chances, but were comprehensively outplayed and the late third goal was the least that Manchester United deserved. In the bigger scheme of things, today's match is far more important and a really must win fixture for the Villans, they have two remaining April league fixtures, trips to Tottenham and Manchester City, with an FA Cup semi final at Wembley sandwiched inbetween. Win today and they are likely to go to the national stadium out of the bottom three, regardless of the what happens at WHL and can then perhaps relax and enjoy the occasion. Lose and the situation, with those fixtures ahead, could quickly get away from them. Forget about the cup, this is the most important game that Villa will play this month and I expect them to really be up for the battle, they are very likely to have one of their recognised left backs returning this evening, along with Tom Cleverley who could not play against his parent club, we spoke about his importance at the weekend and the hosts will have a better balance this evening. More detailed recent notes on Villa can be found at the foot of the email.
QPR had a real morale boosting 4-1 win at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, that has given them a lifeline and another victory this evening would take them above Villa. The manner of that victory was certainly surprising with Rangers being 1-0-13 on the road previously, having scored only ten times. However, the points came at a cost, Eduardo Vargas, who scored the opener and also Rangers only goal in their previous game, suffered a season ending injury, the team have lost 8 of 9 matches he has missed and left back Suk-Young Yoon (6 wins in 17 when he plays, just 1 in 14 without the South Korean) picked up a concussion which will keep him out tonight.
The interim QPR head coach Chris Ramsey worked as number two to Villa boss Tim Sherwood last season at Tottenham, the pair are very good friends and near neighbours, Ramsey is said to have already been told he will not get the job on a permanent basis and Sherwood is very keen to bring him to Villa Park at the end of the season, make of all that what you will.On the basis that one swallow does not a summer make, I need to see more before I can trust the R's on the road and I will take.....
